Append Well of Tragedy Grotto full walkthrough (lower waterfall, right-side stone stack)
The Frostcursed Plate Boots are a pair of Plate Armor footwear in Crimson Desert. They belong to the Frost Cursed Plate armor set and are found inside a treasure chest in the Well of Tragedy, a waterfall cave along the Denn River in northern Demeniss. With 17 ATK and 5 DEF, they share the same offensive stat line as the Frostcursed Plate Gloves, making them one of the harder-hitting pieces in the set.
What sets the Boots apart is their +10.0% Contribution EXP Gain bonus and +2.0% Climb Speed Multiplier. The Contribution EXP boost speeds up progress toward higher Contribution levels in Demeniss, while the Climb Speed bonus helps when scaling cliffs and rock faces throughout the region.
Unlike the Frostcursed Plate Armor (body) and Frostcursed Plate Cloak, the Boots are refinable. They start at Refinement Level 3 and can be upgraded further at any Blacksmith. However, they do not provide any ice or fire resistance on their own.

The table below lists the base stats for the Frostcursed Plate Boots at their starting Refinement Level 3. ATK and DEF values increase with further refinement.
Stat | Value |
|---|---|
Type | Plate Boots (Footwear) |
ATK | 17 |
DEF | 5 |
ATK SPD | 0 |

At 17 ATK, the Boots tie with the Frostcursed Plate Gloves for the highest attack power in the Frostcursed Plate set. Between these two pieces, the combined 34 ATK accounts for all of the set's offensive output.
Effect | Description |
|---|---|
Contribution EXP Gain +10.0% | Increases Contribution experience gained from all sources by 10%, accelerating Contribution level progress in Demeniss |
Climb Speed Multiplier +2.0% | Increases climbing speed by 2% when scaling walls, cliffs, and rock faces |
The +10.0% Contribution EXP Gain is the Boots' headline feature. Contribution level determines access to certain merchants, commissions, and rewards in Demeniss. Players who are actively farming Contribution through commissions and other activities will see a meaningful speedup from wearing the Boots. The bonus applies to all Contribution EXP sources, not just quest rewards.
The +2.0% Climb Speed Multiplier is a smaller perk, but it helps in the rocky northern terrain of Demeniss where vertical traversal is common. It stacks with other climb speed bonuses from accessories or consumable buffs. Over the course of long exploration sessions in mountainous areas, the faster climbing adds up.
The Frostcursed Plate Boots are found in the Well of Tragedy, a small waterfall cave along the Denn River in northern Demeniss. The Well of Tragedy is located northeast of the Lunar Spirit Grotto (where the Frostcursed Plate Gloves are found), farther upstream along the river toward Tariv.
Head to the Denn River in northern Demeniss. If you have already collected the Frostcursed Plate Gloves from Lunar Spirit Grotto, continue northeast upstream along the river.
Look for a waterfall along the riverbank. The Well of Tragedy cave is behind this waterfall.
Face the waterfall and use the Stab skill (R1+Triangle on PlayStation, RB+Y on Xbox, Shift+Right Click on PC) to charge through the falling water into the cave.
Inside the cave, open the treasure chest to obtain the Frostcursed Plate Boots.
The treasure chest also contains a Refined Palmar Pill, a valuable consumable that restores health to full when used. This makes the detour to the Well of Tragedy especially worthwhile, since players come away with both a strong armor piece and a powerful healing item.
Skill | Input | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
R1+Triangle (PS) / RB+Y (Xbox) / Shift+Right Click (PC) | Charges through the waterfall to enter the hidden cave |
The Stab skill must be unlocked from the skill tree before attempting this. Without it, the waterfall cannot be passed through. This is the same skill required for the Frostcursed Plate Gloves at Lunar Spirit Grotto and the Frostcursed Plate Armor at Mistshard Cave.
The Frostcursed Plate Boots start at Refinement Level 3 and can be upgraded at any Blacksmith. Each refinement level increases the ATK and DEF values. Refinement requires ore-based materials like Iron Ore and Copper Ore, which can be mined or purchased from merchants.
Since the Boots provide solid ATK alongside their utility effects, refining them is a worthwhile investment. The stat gains from refinement apply on top of the existing 17 ATK and 5 DEF, pushing them even higher. Among the three refinable Frostcursed pieces (Helm, Gloves, and Boots), the Boots and Gloves benefit the most from refinement because they start with higher base ATK.
The +10.0% Contribution EXP Gain works passively while the Boots are equipped. You can wear them during any Contribution-granting activity (commissions, deliveries, area liberation) for a meaningful speedup. Swap them in before turning in quests if you normally wear different boots for combat.
The Boots do not provide any ice or fire resistance. For cold-zone exploration, you rely on the Frostcursed Plate Armor (Lv 7), Frostcursed Plate Cloak (Lv 5), and Frostcursed Plate Gloves (Lv 1) for ice resistance. The Boots contribute offense and utility instead.
The +2.0% Climb Speed bonus stacks with other sources. If you add climb speed accessories or food buffs, the total difference becomes noticeable when scaling tall cliff faces in the northern mountains.
Pair the Boots with the rest of the Frost Cursed Plate set for the full 34 ATK, 32 DEF, and complete ice resistance coverage. The Boots round out the set with offense and Contribution utility.
If you are focused on Contribution leveling, the Boots are worth keeping equipped even outside of combat. The 10% bonus accelerates an otherwise slow grind, especially at higher Contribution tiers.
The table below compares the Frostcursed Plate Boots with other notable boots in the game.
Boots | ATK | DEF | Notable Feature |
|---|---|---|---|
Frostcursed Plate Boots | 17 | 5 | +10% Contribution EXP, +2% Climb Speed, Refinement Lv 3 |
17 | 5 | Ice Resistance Lv 1, Damage Reduction 1.0 (for comparison) | |
18 | 3 | Highest ATK among plate boots | |
18 | 3 | High ATK alternative |
While the Frostcursed Plate Boots fall slightly behind some alternatives in raw ATK, the Contribution EXP and Climb Speed bonuses give them utility that other boots cannot match. For players who split time between combat and Contribution farming, the Boots offer the best of both.

The boots are inside the Well of Tragedy Grotto, a hidden cave behind a waterfall southwest of the Dead Fire Mountains. The grotto sits in the same central region as the rest of the Frost Cursed Plate cluster, so it chains naturally after the gloves pickup at the Luna Spirit Grotto.
From the Luna Spirit Grotto waterfall, stab back out with R1 and Triangle and start heading toward the Well of Tragedy marker.
The grotto is close enough that you do not need to mount up. Glide across the gap and climb the small cliff in front of the waterfall on foot.
At the destination there are two waterfalls stacked vertically. Drop down to the lower one. The upper waterfall is not the entrance.
Look on the right hand side of the lower waterfall for a small stone stack. That marker means the entry is on the right side, not the left. Drop in front of the right side of the falls, hit R1 and Triangle to stab through, and hold the input to charge the stab if you are missing the gap.
The chest is just inside the entrance. Loot it for the boots and pick up the Refined Palmar Pill sitting nearby for a free passive consumable.

One Refined Palmar Pill (the same passive you can find in the gloves grotto).
This piece can be upgraded, unlike the chest armor, so it scales into the late game.
Stabbing the upper waterfall does nothing. Always drop to the lower waterfall first.
Stabbing the left side of the lower waterfall also does nothing. The stone stack on the right is the only entrance marker.
