Every Aniimo carries a passive Trait that is always active while it fights alongside a Pathfinder.
Trait | Effect |

Sword Dance | Each skill used grants 1 stack of [Sword Dance], up to 4 stacks, lasting 15s. Each basic attack costs 1 stack of [Sword Dance] to deal 180% extra damage. |
The table lists Thornblade's five available combat moves across its forms and capture unlocks, plus its ultimate and basic attack. Choose the two combat skills for the build. Power is the published damage figure and Cost is the resource required.
Skill | Type | Power | Cost | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Thorny Defense | Combat | 75 | 20 | Enters a defensive stance, reducing damage taken by 20% While in this state, it counters when attacked. If attacked just as the skill is used, its critical rate increases by 30% for 15s. |

Towerwood Budsquire | Towerwood Thornblade | 27 | 3 Sprout Stones | Defeat Basic Thornblade using a solo party containing only one Towerwood Budsquire and no other members, then evolve in Rosetower Woods. Defeat the opponent rather than capturing it. |
Form | Area | Encounter guidance |
|---|---|---|
Basic | Sea of Flowers | Check the chest with three Budsquire in the central flower fields. The nearby group can sleep during the day and be awake at night. |
Basic | Sea of Flowers | If the Thornblade is accidentally defeated, travel away and advance time before returning. Time adjustment opens during Ceremony Preparations. |
Thunderstorm | Sea of Flowers | During rain or a storm, search the entrance to the small building attached to the central ruined tower, northwest of Alpha Irisal. |
Prismana | Sea of Flowers | During Prismana Flow, search the collapsed ruins. |
Towerwood | Rosetower Woods | Explore the southeastern ruins. |
Sea of Flowers Wild Surges offer another chance at the Basic form. Inspect the current Nurture species preview before spending materials. Thunderstorm and Prismana are encounter routes; do not assume that the Basic evolution recipe changes into those forms.

Thorny Defense is an alternative when a well-timed counter will be more useful than a second offensive action. Aqua Defense gives the Prismana form another defensive option; its timed counter applies Lockdown, which prevents the target from switching and can be useful in Pathfinder Challenges.

These are example parties. Shrubclaw can take the BREAK slot in the Grass setup. For Thunderstorm Thornblade, Tuckin is an alternative to Luminelle when Lightning Impact is not part of the chosen pair.
Apply the party's Grass and critical support before bringing Thornblade onto the field.
Land Thorny Impact or Lightning Impact, or time Thorny Defense against an incoming hit, to prepare the appropriate critical-rate bonus.
Build Sword Dance through skill casts, then spend stacks with basic attacks and use Thorny Rain during the damage opening. The critical-rate bonuses do not guarantee a critical hit.
Use Elegant Waltz when the window and resources allow, then rotate to healing or EP support before the next opening.
Thorny Rain can be used up to three times consecutively. Its held-item contract adds one Sword Dance stack for 15 seconds and makes the next basic attack start at its third hit. Compare that benefit with the other contracts needed by the party.
Sparkling Cubes and Sparkling Sigils provide separate ways to obtain or convert a Sparkling individual. The Custom Egg Box - DPS instead offers one choice among Shining Thornblade, Shining Scorchhowl and Shining Sherro Eggs with Perfect Potential; that egg choice does not itself establish a Sparkling result.
