Catching and Aniipods

Catching wild Aniimo is a central activity in Aniimo, and it is done with devices called Aniipods. With ordinary Aniipods, catching is a test of timing and judgement that the game frames as a thrill in itself.

Using Aniipods

Pathfinders throw Aniipods to capture creatures, and can set traps and time their attempts for the best chance of success. The official description emphasises the uncertainty of catching with ordinary Aniipods, so reading a creature's behaviour and choosing the right moment matters. Captures happen directly in the field as you explore, without switching to a separate battle screen, keeping the action continuous.

Lucky Strikes

The launch build added a lucky strike to catching. A lucky strike grants item rewards, raises the surrounding area's Prismatic Energy, and can directly trigger a Prismana Flow, which is the event that produces a Prismana Form creature. That makes ordinary catching a feeder for the rarity system rather than a separate activity from it.

Wild spawn rates for high-potential creatures were also raised for launch, specifically at the 9/9 and 10/10 grades.

Dynamic Spawns

Which Aniimo appear is not fixed. Creatures show up according to the environment, the weather, ongoing phenomena, and the time of day, so exploring the world at different times and in different conditions turns up different companions.

Each species also keeps to particular parts of Idyll. Nimbi appear in Nimbus Fields and Bolties in Blitzwood, the Tideblossom Coast draws water creatures such as Fahloo and Erlath, and areas such as Beast Fang Ridge, Rosetower Woods and the Russet Highlands each host their own regular residents. A creature's Form changes where it lives. The same species can be a Basic Form in one region and a Highland or Snowfield Form somewhere else entirely, with a different elemental pairing attached, so hunting a specific Form means hunting a specific place.

Recording and Managing a Catch

Every catch is logged in the Aniilog, the game's creature index, which tracks each species alongside the individual Forms a Pathfinder has unlocked. Unlocking a Form in the Aniilog is what makes that version of a creature usable, a rule the studio spelled out when explaining how creatures sealed during the last beta would be restored.

Caught Aniimo are then handled from an Aniimo Management screen, and can be assigned to expeditions that take them out of the active roster for a time.

Quality and Rarity

Individual creatures differ in quality, not just species. A Sparkling rarity and a class of Alpha Aniimo have both been confirmed, and each catch carries an Acquired Potential rating that grades its aptitude, with Perfect Potential at the top. Umbral Aniimo carry Perfect Potential and a distinctive colouration by definition. Two changes to Sparkling Aniimo were announced by the developers on October 1, 2026, to arrive after the version 1.1 update; as of October 13, 2026 neither had been confirmed live. Sparkling Hue rerolls on Sparkling Prismana Aniimo are to be improved so that a player can switch freely between every Sparkling Hue already unlocked for that Aniimo, including its original Prismana Hue. And a Legendary Aniipod will become usable on a Sparkling Aniimo that has already been caught: it replaces the Aniipod the creature was originally caught with and grants that Legendary Aniipod's exclusive Sparkling effect.

A patch on September 29, 2026 fixed Alpha catch attempts that sometimes failed with the message "Cannot catch the Alpha in the current state."

Special eggs, including the Prismana egg bundled with the paid pre-order packs, are hatched at the Outpost Hatchinator rather than caught.

Field-catching controls

In Catch Mode, aim at the target to inspect the displayed capture chance before throwing. A throw that misses every creature returns its Aniipod. Approaching from behind provides a better opportunity to catch an unaware target.

The Tweetin' Target talent distracts a creature with a rubber duck. Bubble Gun temporarily prevents its target from fainting, allowing further catch attempts. Read their talent descriptions before using them.

Choosing a catching tool

The multipliers below change capture chance relative to the ordinary attempt; 2× does not mean an automatic catch. Tumbler has a separate 3× condition for Nurture gatherings. Ultra and Sparkling Cube provide the stated guarantees when the encounter allows capture.

Keep an Ultra for a desired Alpha or higher-level encounter that allows capture. A Sparkling Cube is useful when you want both Perfect Potential and Sparkling on a particular Prismana target. When used on an already Perfect Aniimo, it raises the chance that recommended Innate Potential attributes exceed 8; it does not guarantee values above 8.

Exchanges and premium costs

Access an Outpost exchange through Shop, Corner Shop, Exchange, Outpost Vendor, then Item Exchange. Sparkling Crystals come from Elite Training, Glimmer purchases, collection milestones, Companion Handbook, Holo-Battle modes, quests, Sanctums and chests. Ultra Vouchers come from Elite Training, Holo-Battle Sim, Sanctum clears and chests.

For an egg, compare its own guaranteed Form, mutation and Potential with the pod you intend to spend. An egg that already guarantees Perfect Potential does not need an Ultra merely for its Elite floor. The selected pod and the egg can supply different guarantees.
