Monoliths and Empyrean Traces

Corrected wikilink existence flags
Every territory in AION 2 has a Monolith, and every territory hides Empyrean Traces. Finding a Trace and resonating it at the Monolith raises the Monolith's level, and Monolith levels pay out rewards and permanent stat bonuses. The system is introduced through the story: both factions reach a Hero Quest called Empyrean Monolith at level 16.
Monolith | Territory | Faction | Traces collected |
|---|---|---|---|
Verteron Monolith | Elyos | Empyrean Trace: Verteron | |
Altgard Monolith | Asmodian | Empyrean Trace: Altgard | |
Ereshkigal's Monolith | Reshanta (the Abyss) | Both | Empyrean Trace: Reshanta |
New Monoliths in Eltnen and Morheim | Elyos, Asmodian | Traces scattered across the two Chapter 1 territories |
The Monolith and Trace names above are the ones the game uses. NCsoft's English press releases use the forms Monoliths and Empyrean Trace.
The Korean service has reworked the system several times since launch. The global service has not announced changes of its own as of October 2, 2026.
Date (Korean build) | Change |
|---|---|
December 3, 2025 | Monolith level bonuses were reworked. The Verteron and Altgard Monoliths gained additional stats, while Ereshkigal's Monolith in the Abyss gave those up and switched to PvP stats: PvP attack, defense, accuracy, evasion, critical hit and critical hit resistance. |
December 3, 2025 | Each Trace recovered in Verteron or Altgard now counts as four instead of one, and characters who had already collected Traces were credited three more per Trace. A new recipe converts one Verteron or Altgard Trace into 50 Enhance Stones, up to 1,680 conversions per server. |
December 17, 2025 | Trace Inheritance: collection progress can be shared between characters on the same server through the Monolith, and each character then uses the shared Traces to raise its own resonance level. |
December 24, 2025 | Characters whose Verteron or Altgard Monolith has reached level 30 can convert a spare Trace into a stack of ten upgrade stones, up to 1,680 conversions per character. |
January 2026 | Uncollected Traces are shown on the world map and minimap. |
February 2026 | The opposing faction's Traces are no longer shown on the world map and minimap. |
July 1, 2026 | New Monoliths arrived in Eltnen and Morheim with Chapter 1. Their level rewards include enhancement scrolls for a Hero-grade amulet. |
Chapter 1 added Daeva Express items on the Korean build. The Empyrean Trace version collects every Trace a character has not yet picked up in the chosen territory in one go, and the paid Exciting First Step package announced with Chapter 1 completes Stronghold, Sealed Dungeon and Empyrean Trace content at once. See Strongholds and Sealed Dungeons for the matching Stronghold and Sealed Dungeon shortcuts.
When a character moves server on the Korean service, its Monolith levels and Trace progress move with it.
Achievement | Requirement |
|---|---|
Reach level 5 on your faction's Monolith (six tiers) | |
Ereshkigal's Monolith | Reach level 3 on the Abyss Monolith (five tiers) |
Collect your territory's Empyrean Trace five times (seven tiers) | |
Traces Left in the Abyss | Collect Empyrean Trace: Reshanta five times (seven tiers) |
The Korean build's Spacetime Rift: Domination mode also uses Monoliths: three stand in and around each Stronghold under attack, and all three have to be destroyed for the Stronghold to fall. Those are battle objectives, separate from the territory Monoliths described above.
