How the Comfort Bonus Works
Signal Fire counts as a fire-based comfort source. Its +1 Comfort bonus does not stack with other fire-source comfort bonuses, so placing multiple fire structures in the same spot does not keep raising the value.
What Makes It Different
The structure sits in the same utilities group as the Bonfire, Floor-Standing Torch, Tent, and Wharf, but its role is narrower: it is a long-range beacon with real structure health rather than a disposable light source.

When to Place a Signal Fire
Signal Fire is designed around long-range visibility rather than base comfort. The three-instance world cap pushes players to treat each placement as a deliberate choice. The practical deployments fall into three buckets.
Scenario | Why It Works | Placement Hint |
|---|---|---|
Coop rally beacon | Crew-mates can orient on the flame from across an island without pinging the map, which is useful when voice-chat positioning is unreliable or the party is split during a biome sweep. | Drop it on the highest clear ridge near the shared landing beach, not inside the base itself. |
Cave-return marker | Before descending into a ruin or cave, a Signal Fire at the mouth of the entrance gives a clear 'this is where I came in' cue that does not depend on the mini-map compass. | Place it just outside the cave entrance so the flame glow is visible from inside the first room. |
Expedition outpost | On long hunting or Ancient Scraps loops across the Cursed Swamps, a Signal Fire at the run's waypoint reduces wayfinding time between drops. | Anchor the fire near a fresh-water source or a ruin entrance, within Bonfire range if you intend to camp. |
Comfort Stacking Rule
Signal Fire counts as a fire-source Comfort contributor, not an additive structure. The +1 it provides does not stack with the Comfort from a Bonfire, a Floor-Standing Torch, or a Tent. Packing three Signal Fires into the same room returns a single +1 tick at the shared node, so treat them as a visibility tool first and a comfort bump only if the base genuinely has no other fire source.
Interactions With Other Structures
Signal Fire is classified as a Base Utility. It does not count as a cooking bench or refining station, so placing one inside a crafting workshop never triggers hidden recipe unlocks.
The 1,500 HP pool means a Signal Fire survives wandering creature attacks longer than a standard Torch, but it is still vulnerable to boss-grade enemies. Do not place it as a forward defensive layer.
Placement decay continues whether or not the fire is visibly lit, so plan replacements alongside other long-life base structures rather than treating the fire as a one-off.
