Valor Mortis is a hard game by design. The public playtest and demo had no difficulty selector, and the September 13, 2026 accessibility panel declared selectable difficulty levels absent. Those are dated pre-launch observations; the shipped game's final options still need checking.
Difficulty Levels
There is no evidence of a difficulty selector, and one strong piece of evidence against it. The PC store listing carries a developer-declared accessibility panel, and the entry for selectable difficulty levels is declared false. That is the studio's own answer on its own product page rather than an inference from footage.
It lines up with everything else on the record. Neither the October 2025 pre-alpha playtest nor the 2026 demo offered an easy mode or a difficulty menu, and the studio has consistently talked about keeping the game hard while making it fair and readable. When it responded to demo feedback in August 2026 it treated difficulty as a curve to tune rather than a setting to expose, and its answer to the most common complaint, that General Lothaire was too punishing, was to confirm he sits at the end of Chapter II rather than Chapter I in the full game.
Treat a single fixed difficulty as the working expectation. It is not a locked commitment until the shipped game settles it, but nothing published points the other way.
Declared Accessibility Features
The PC store listing's developer-declared panel, as it stood on September 13, 2026:
Feature | Declared |
|---|---|
Subtitles | Yes |
Background volume controls | Yes |
Stereo sound | Yes |
Surround sound | Yes |
Resizable interface | No |
Colour alternatives | No |
Contrast controls | No |
Camera comfort | No |
Narrated menus | No |
Playable without vision | No |
Playable without quick-time events | No |
Keyboard-only option | No |
Mouse-only option | No |
Touch-only option | No |
Difficulty levels | No |
Save anytime | No |
Playable at your own pace | No |
Two of those deserve a note for anyone planning a run. Save anytime is declared false, which is consistent with a game that banks progress at lanterns rather than on demand. Playable at your own pace is declared false as well, which fits an action game built on live timing windows.
Options Confirmed Elsewhere
Not everything useful is in that panel. Other first-party material confirms:
Option | Source of the confirmation |
|---|---|
Field-of-view slider | Added before the October 2025 playtest, in response to event feedback |
Keyboard remapping | Added before the playtest; the studio later committed to revisiting the default layout after players objected to the block and dodge bindings, and to making custom binds save between sessions |
Multiple controller presets | Added before the playtest |
Fourteen languages of interface text and subtitles | Listed on the PC store page, with English the only full-audio language |
Subtitle options | Listed as a PC store feature alongside stereo and surround sound |
The studio also flagged in December 2025 that it was improving combat readability through clearer attack windups, stronger pre-attack audio cues, and a sharper visual and audible distinction between a block and a parry. That is a legibility change rather than an accessibility setting, but it is the kind of change that does the same job.
What Is Still Open
As of September 13, 2026, the console storefront listings publish no accessibility tags for this game, and no accessibility blog post, feature list or options-menu breakdown appears on the official site, the publisher's site or in the studio's own Steam development posts. Nothing has been said about colourblind modes, aim assist, an auto-parry, an assist mode, or a photosensitivity warning beyond the storefront's general content notice about sustained violence.
The Combat page covers the systems that actually make fights more manageable, and the Getting Started page covers how to approach the opening hours without a difficulty slider to fall back on.
Camera readability before launch
On September 17, 2026, the studio confirmed dynamic field-of-view scaling to help players read huge boss fights. It is separate from the field-of-view slider already added before the playtest. The announcement describes a camera-behaviour change, not a new difficulty level or a promise of a user-selectable accessibility toggle.
The current PC listing continues to name custom volume controls, subtitle options, stereo and surround sound. The older detailed yes/no panel above is retained as the September 13 record rather than treated as a fresh October feature audit.
