Sipan is the protagonist and sole playable character of Swords of Legends. Sipan is an Arbiter of the Underworld who is dead yet reborn, returned to the mortal world to carry out the duties of the netherworld among the living.

Sipan's task comes from the Judge of King Yama: to find souls that have lost their way, hear out the stories that keep them bound to the world, cut those worldly ties, and ferry each soul across the sea of birth and death. This role frames both the narrative and the way Sipan fights, since judging and guiding the dead is inseparable from the powers the hero wields.

As an Arbiter, Sipan can unleash mystical techniques, summon spirit creatures, and call on a wide arsenal of weapons that range from the swords of the living to the artifacts of the dead. Sipan can also capture the souls of certain defeated foes and bring them into battle through the Spirit Companion System.
