Starsand Points (often called simply "Starsand") are the secondary currency in Starsand Island, separate from Coins (the primary currency used for buying and selling items). While Coins flow freely through shops, crop sales, and daily commerce, Starsand Points are a progression currency tied to milestones, quests, and leveling. You spend them on two critical systems: Workpedia profession perks and farm land expansion. Because Starsand cannot be purchased with Coins or traded, managing your supply wisely is one of the most important aspects of mid-to-late game planning.
There are seven confirmed methods for earning Starsand Points. Some are repeatable daily, while others are one-time progression rewards.
The StarNote app is the game's achievement and milestone tracker, accessible from your phone. It organizes tasks across four categories: Building Homestead, Farmer's Life, Island Residents, and Daily Moments. Completing tasks grants EXP, and each time you level up, you receive Starsand Points along with cosmetic rewards like clothing and decorative furniture.
You must manually open the StarNote app and claim your rewards after each level-up. Every 100 XP unlocks the next level. Rewards follow a tiered pattern:
Level Range | Base Reward | Milestone Reward (Every 3rd Level) |
|---|---|---|
1-2 | 20 Starsand | N/A |
3 | N/A | 50 Starsand |
4-5 | 20 Starsand | N/A |
6 | N/A | 50 Starsand |
7-8 | 20 Starsand | N/A |
9 | N/A | 50 Starsand |
10-11 | 25 Starsand | N/A |
12 | N/A | 60 Starsand |
This pattern continues through Level 45, with both base and milestone rewards gradually increasing at higher tiers. StarNote tasks include daily refreshing objectives (harvest 10 crops, talk to 3 NPCs) and one-time accomplishments (catch your first fish, craft a Worktable II).
The Bulletin Board sits outside the Community Center on the east side of the town plaza. It refreshes every morning at 6:00 AM and displays up to four NPC requests each day. Completing a request rewards Coins, Affection Points with the requesting NPC (15 to 25 points), and Starsand Points.
Request Difficulty | Starsand Reward |
|---|---|
One star | 25 Starsand Points |
Two stars | 35 Starsand Points |
Trial / quest requests | 70 to 100 Starsand Points |
Higher-star requests offer better Starsand rewards, so prioritize those when they appear. Completing requests within the time limit can grant bonus rewards. The Bulletin Board also tracks cumulative request milestones that provide additional Starsand when reached.
The Island Life app provides sequential rank-based quest lines. Each rank represents a stage of your integration into island society, and completing rank stages rewards substantial amounts of Starsand Points:
Rank | Focus | Starsand Reward |
|---|---|---|
Returning Resident | Basic island tasks and introductions | 50 to 100 |
Island Pro | Community participation (unlocks land ownership) | 100 to 200 |
Skillful Star | Reach Junior in a profession; complete 5 Community Center requests | 200 to 400 |
Home Builder | Housing and property expansion | 300 to 500 |
Bright Star | Social and economic growth | 500 to 800 |
Starsand Legend | Endgame prestige and completion milestones | 1,000 to 1,500 |
The later ranks award increasingly large payouts. Completing Starsand Legend is one of the single largest sources of Starsand in the game, though it requires substantial progression across all systems.
Advancing through profession tiers (Apprentice, Junior, Intermediate, Senior, Expert) earns passive Starsand rewards. The system grants approximately 100 points every three profession levels, doubling at later tiers. This happens across all five professions (Crafter, Farmer, Explorer, Angler, Rancher), so diversifying your skill progression yields more total Starsand than focusing on a single profession.
Using the in-game camera (press P to open Photo Mode) to photograph specific landmarks, shops, piers, statues, and cooking spots earns Starsand Points when you add those photos to your Scenery Album through the Album app. Each new entry grants 20 Starsand Points. Known landmarks include:
Serena's Store (Bloom Atelier)
Zerine's General Store
Half-Moon Bay Pier
Aureleaf Kitchen
Windflute Island Pier
Various scenic overlooks and points of interest across the island
Explore the island thoroughly to find all scenic spots. Equipping a skateboard or rollerblades makes covering ground faster during photo runs. The Album app also awards milestone bonuses at certain collection thresholds, including emotes and additional Starsand.
Randomly spawning tourist NPCs appear around town, on beaches, and at the pier. You can spot them by their colorful clothing that stands out from regular islanders. Interacting with these visitors can grant Starsand Points along with other rewards like fish bait, flower seeds, and crafting materials.
Tourists do not appear on a fixed schedule. Best locations to check for them include Half-Moon Bay, the piers, Town Square, the ranch area, and the Flower Corridor. Some tourists request photos; completing their photo requests is a quick way to earn bonus Starsand. Momo, a regular islander, also has photo-related side quests that contribute to the Daily Moments category in StarNote.
Earning documentation stamps in the Islandpedia contributes Starsand Points at certain milestones. This system ties into the Bio Research stamp collection, where catching fish and bugs adds entries. Reaching approximately 72 specimens unlocks the third stamp milestone, which also awards colored sheep for the dye system.
Starsand Points are spent through two phone apps. No NPC shops accept Starsand as currency.
The Workpedia app unlocks on your phone after becoming an Apprentice in any profession. It is the primary Starsand sink and contains skill trees for all five professions. Each perk can be upgraded multiple times (typically 2 to 3 levels) at increasing cost for stronger effects. Higher profession tiers unlock additional, more powerful perks.
Points are shared across all professions. You spend from a single pool, which means you must choose which skills to prioritize, especially early on when points are scarce. Key perks by profession:
Profession | Notable Perks | Why They Matter |
|---|---|---|
Recuperate, Efficiency Boost, Handcrafted Wonders, Nutrient Absorption | Recuperate is widely recommended as your first perk. Stamina recovery while sitting saves food and lets you gather longer. Handcrafted Wonders (Expert) lets you craft without a Worktable. | |
Effortless Tilling, Seed Spreader, Chain Harvest, Eternal Blessing | Chain Harvest Lv.3 harvests your entire field in one action. Eternal Blessing drops Immortal Seeds that produce crops indefinitely. | |
Power Strike, Ammo Recycle, Victory Siphon, Beast Tracker | Ammo Recycle saves ammunition during Moonlit Forest runs. Victory Siphon doubles treasure chest rewards. | |
Focused Cast, Bait Saver, Lucky Streak | Focused Cast builds momentum between catches. Lucky Streak improves rare fish odds. | |
Breeding Maestro, Genetics Expert, Golden/Silver Poop Drops | Useful for large animal operations and targeted breeding for specific traits. |

The Buy Land app unlocks after completing the Skillful Star rank in Island Life. Farm land expansion requires both Coins and Starsand Points. Your starting farm at Hopeland has eight expansion plots:
Plot | Coin Cost | Starsand Cost |
|---|---|---|
1st Expansion | 2,000 | 50 |
2nd Expansion | 15,000 | 75 |
3rd Expansion | 30,000 | 90 |
4th Expansion | 50,000 | 130 |
5th Expansion | 75,000 | 160 |
6th Expansion | 100,000 | 200 |
7th Expansion | 130,000 | 250 |
8th Expansion | 160,000 | 300 |
Total (Hopeland) | 562,000 | 1,255 |
Beyond Hopeland, additional farm locations unlock through Island Life progression:
Location | Coin Cost | Starsand Cost | Unlock Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
6,000,000 | 750 | Home Builder rank (Island Life quest 11) | |
Blue Beach | To be confirmed | To be confirmed | Bright Star rank (Island Life quest 16) |
Windflute Island | To be confirmed | To be confirmed | Starsand Legend rank (near endgame) |
The total Starsand required to fully expand Hopeland alone is 1,255 points, and unlocking all additional farm locations pushes the total well above 2,000. Plan your spending between Workpedia perks and land expansion carefully.
Understanding the difference between the two currencies is essential for resource planning:
Feature | Coins | Starsand Points |
|---|---|---|
Primary Use | Buying items, seeds, animals, blueprints | Workpedia perks, land expansion |
How Earned | Selling crops, fish, crafted goods, quest rewards | Milestones, quests, leveling, Bulletin Board |
Shops That Accept | All NPC shops | None (spent through phone apps only) |
Tradeable | Yes (sell items for Coins) | No (cannot be traded or converted) |
Bottleneck | Mid-game (land costs escalate) | Constant (always limited supply) |
Starsand Points are the tighter resource throughout the entire game. Coins become abundant once you establish profitable crop rotations and cooking pipelines, but Starsand remains scarce because it cannot be farmed through commerce. Every point counts.
Check the Bulletin Board every morning. The four daily requests are the most consistent repeatable source. Prioritize two-star and trial requests for maximum point yield.
Claim StarNote rewards promptly. Starsand from level-ups does not auto-collect. Open the StarNote app after each level-up to claim your points. Many achievements complete passively through normal gameplay.
Diversify your professions. Since each profession grants Starsand on tier-ups, progressing across all five yields more total points than maxing one. About 100 points every three profession levels adds up fast.
Complete Island Life ranks. The later ranks (Bright Star, Starsand Legend) provide the largest single payouts in the game, up to 1,500 points each.
Photograph everything. The Scenery Album grants 20 Starsand per new entry. Snap every landmark, pier, shop front, and scenic overlook you visit. Use a skateboard for faster travel between photo spots.
Talk to tourists. Random tourist NPCs near the beach and pier can grant surprise Starsand rewards alongside other gifts. They are easy to miss if you are not looking for their colorful clothing.
Work on the Islandpedia. Catching fish and bugs for documentation stamps earns points at milestones, and the third stamp also gives you colored sheep for free.
Spend points on Lv.1 first. The jump from Lv.0 to Lv.1 of any perk provides the biggest relative improvement. Spread your early points across multiple useful skills before maxing any single one.
Prioritize Recuperate. Almost every guide recommends Recuperate (Crafter, Apprentice) as your very first purchase. Faster stamina recovery while sitting affects every single play session.
