Moonrise Flowers are a Senior Farmer-tier flower crop in Starsand Island, available exclusively during the Summer season. Described as a night-blooming flower with a unique visual appearance, the Moonrise is one of four plantable flower species sold at the Happiness Seed Shop. Each of the four flower types corresponds to a single season: Orchid (Spring), Moonrise (Summer), Rose (Autumn), and Tulip (Winter).
Moonrise seeds come in three base colors: Red, Yellow, and Blue. Through cross-breeding, you can produce five additional hybrid colors: Orange, Purple, Green, Pink, and Brown. These hybrid Moonrise variants are useful as high-value NPC gifts, decorative farm accents, and Islandpedia entries. Growing and cross-breeding Moonrise Flowers during Summer is also important preparation for the Senior Farmer certification trial, which requires you to present specific hybrid flower colors to Graminova.
Like all flowers, Moonrise plants grow on regular tilled farmland with no special structures required. They do not need trellises, paddy fields, or planting boxes. The growth cycle takes 4 days and 18 hours per harvest, yielding 4 flowers per plant. Flowers are single-harvest crops; once you pick the flowers, the plant is spent and you must replant.

Moonrise Flowers are available in eight total colors: three purchasable base colors and five hybrid colors created through cross-breeding. Each color variant counts as a separate entry in the Islandpedia under the Plants category, so collecting all eight contributes to stamp completion milestones.
The three base Moonrise colors can be bought directly from the Happiness Seed Shop once you reach Senior Farmer certification.

Five hybrid Moonrise colors can be produced by cross-breeding two base or hybrid Moonrise Flowers of different colors. The hybrid color combinations follow the same rules as all other flower species. Once you successfully grow a hybrid Moonrise, you can use the Grinder to convert it into seeds for direct replanting, removing the need to cross-breed that color again.
Hybrid Color | Parent Combination | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Red + Yellow | Primary combination; highest success rate | |
Red + Blue | Primary combination; highest success rate | |
Yellow + Blue | Primary combination; highest success rate | |
Red + Purple, or Blue + Purple | Requires a first-generation Purple hybrid as a parent | |
Red + Orange, or Orange + Blue, or Orange + Green | Rarest standard hybrid; requires a first-generation hybrid parent |
Brown is the most difficult standard hybrid to produce because it requires first-generation hybrid flowers as parents. You need to successfully cross-breed an Orange, Purple, or Green Moonrise first, then use that hybrid in a second round of cross-breeding. Expect multiple attempts for Brown.
Note: The Black flower variant is exclusive to Sleep Lilies. Moonrise Flowers cannot produce a Black variant through cross-breeding. Only Sleep Lilies found in the Moonlit Forest can be cross-bred to create Black flowers.
Cross-breeding Moonrise Flowers works exactly the same as cross-breeding any other flower species. The process requires two Moonrise plants of different colors planted with a single empty tilled plot between them. For a full breakdown of mechanics, layouts, and advanced strategies, see the dedicated Cross-Breeding Flowers article.
1. Plant two Moonrise Flowers of different colors on adjacent farm plots, leaving one empty tilled plot between them in a straight line (horizontally or vertically).
2. Water both parent plots and the empty middle plot every day. Missing a watering day resets the breeding timer, so use sprinklers to automate this step.
3. Wait for both parent flowers to fully mature (4 days, 18 hours). Cross-breeding only triggers when the parent flowers are ripe.
4. After maturation, there is a chance each day that a hybrid flower will sprout on the empty middle plot.
5. Harvest the hybrid flower and run it through the Grinder to produce seeds of that hybrid color for direct replanting.
Apply Nutrient Soil IV fertilizer to the parent flower plots after planting. This fertilizer is unlocked at the Senior Farmer tier and costs 250 Coins per bag of 5. It boosts pollination probability by 15%, which significantly improves your odds of producing hybrids. Nutrient Soil IV can be stacked with Ripening Fertilizer on the same plot. Ripening Fertilizer shortens the growth time, while Nutrient Soil IV improves pollination odds. Using both together means your Moonrise Flowers mature faster and have a higher chance of producing hybrids each cycle.
For efficient summer cross-breeding, set up rows of alternating Moonrise parents with empty plots between each pair. A typical row looks like this: Red Moonrise, empty plot, Blue Moonrise, gap tile (untilled), Yellow Moonrise, empty plot, Red Moonrise. The gap tile between pairs prevents accidental cross-pollination between separate breeding sets. Position sprinklers to cover both parent tiles and the empty center tiles.
Set up 4 to 6 active breeding pairs simultaneously. Running multiple pairs gives you the best chance of producing the hybrid colors you need within a single Summer season. Each season lasts 28 in-game days, and a full growth cycle takes nearly 5 days, so you can fit roughly 5 to 6 growth cycles per season.
Moonrise Flowers grow on standard tilled farmland. Unlike trellis crops or paddy crops, no special structures are needed. Simply till a plot with your hoe, plant the Moonrise seed, and water daily.
Moonrise Seeds are sold by Graminova at the Happiness Seed Shop in Starsand Town. The shop operates daily. You must reach the Senior Farmer tier before Moonrise Seeds appear in the shop inventory. Seeds are not locked by season at the point of purchase; you can buy them in any season and stockpile them for the next Summer.
To unlock Senior Farmer, complete the Apprentice, Junior, and Intermediate Farmer certification tiers through Graminova's profession quests. The Senior Farmer trial itself requires you to demonstrate cross-breeding by producing specific hybrid flower colors and presenting them to Graminova.
An alternative way to obtain Moonrise Seeds is through the Grinder. Placing harvested Moonrise Flowers into the Grinder produces Moonrise Seeds of the same color, allowing you to recycle part of your harvest back into planting material. This is especially valuable for hybrid colors, since the Grinder lets you replant a hybrid directly without repeating the cross-breeding process.
After planting, Moonrise Flowers take 4 days and 18 hours to reach maturity. Water the crop every day for it to grow on schedule. If you skip a day of watering, growth stalls until the next time you water. Once the plant is ready, harvest it to collect 4 Moonrise Flowers.
Moonrise Flowers are single-harvest crops. After picking, the plant is spent and the plot becomes empty. You must till the soil again and plant a new seed for the next round. This differs from multi-harvest crops like Honeyvine or Star Plum, which regrow and produce multiple harvests from a single planting.
Moonrise Flowers grow only during Summer, which lasts 28 in-game days. With a growth time of roughly 5 days per cycle, you can complete about 5 full growth cycles within a single Summer season. If you are cross-breeding, each cycle gives one chance for a hybrid to spawn, so starting early in Summer is important.
Plan your flower purchases before Summer begins. Buy Red, Yellow, and Blue Moonrise Seeds during Spring so you are ready to plant on the first day of Summer. This maximizes the number of growth cycles and cross-breeding attempts you get within the season.
Moonrise Flowers, particularly hybrid variants, make excellent gifts for raising NPC affection. Rare hybrid colors generally provide higher affection boosts than base colors. The following NPCs have confirmed preferences for Moonrise Flowers:
NPC | Moonrise Preference | Gift Tier |
|---|---|---|
Loved (+15 Affection) | ||
Loved (+15 Affection) |
Purple Moonrise is the most notable Moonrise gift, loved by both Sylvain and Hattie. Since Purple is a primary hybrid (Red + Blue), it is relatively straightforward to produce through cross-breeding. Once you have Purple Moonrise Seeds from the Grinder, you can plant them directly for a steady supply of high-value gifts.
Other NPCs may also accept Moonrise Flowers as liked or neutral gifts. For a complete list of every NPC's gift preferences, see the Gift Guide. Note that Moonflower (a wild flower from the Moonlit Forest) is a separate item from Moonrise and is universally liked by nearly every NPC. Do not confuse the two.
Use | Details |
|---|---|
NPC Gifts | Hybrid Moonrise variants (especially Purple) are loved by specific NPCs. Rare colors provide higher affection boosts than base colors. |
Cross-Breeding | Base and hybrid Moonrise Flowers serve as parents for producing new hybrid colors. Hybrids can be used to create second-generation colors like Brown. |
Decoration | Planted Moonrise Flowers enhance your farm's visual appeal. The night-blooming design and variety of colors create striking garden arrangements. |
Each Moonrise color variant counts as a separate Islandpedia entry under Plants. Collecting all eight colors contributes to stamp milestones and Coin rewards. | |
Selling | Hybrid flowers sell for more than base-color variants at shops. Selling to the Merchant Ship at double price further increases returns. |
Senior Farmer Trial | The Senior Farmer certification trial requires cross-bred hybrid flowers. Moonrise Flowers grown during Summer are one option for completing this requirement. |
Grinder (Seed Recovery) | Harvested Moonrise Flowers can be processed in the Grinder to produce seeds of the same color, allowing you to replant hybrid colors without repeating cross-breeding. |
Like all crops in Starsand Island, Moonrise Flowers have an Everlasting variant. Everlasting Moonrise Seeds produce a flower that does not become spent after harvesting. Instead, the plant continues regrowing and producing flowers indefinitely, eliminating the need to buy new seeds and replant each cycle. Everlasting crops also ignore season restrictions, meaning an Everlasting Moonrise plant will grow year-round, including during Spring, Autumn, and Winter.
There are several ways to obtain Everlasting Moonrise Seeds:
Eternal Blessings Skill: The Senior Farmer tier unlocks the Eternal Blessings skill, which gives a chance of receiving an Everlasting Seed when harvesting any regular crop. The higher your farming proficiency, the better the odds.
Creamy Seeds Buff: Eating Mirthshroom Soup (recipe found in a Moonlit Forest chest) grants a temporary buff that increases the chance of dropping Everlasting Seeds when harvesting. Combine this with the Eternal Blessings skill for the best results.
Islandpedia Rewards: Completing certain entries in the Plants section of the Islandpedia may reward you with Everlasting Seeds for specific crops.
Random Harvest Drops: Occasionally, harvesting a normal Moonrise plant will yield an Everlasting Moonrise Seed alongside the regular flowers.
Everlasting Seeds are safe to relocate. If you remove an Everlasting Moonrise from the ground, the seed returns to your inventory so you can replant it elsewhere without losing your investment. Over time, building up a collection of Everlasting Moonrise Seeds lets you maintain a permanent flower field that produces Moonrise Flowers every few days across all four seasons, which is especially powerful for year-round NPC gifting and continuous Islandpedia progress.
Buy seeds during Spring for a head start: Moonrise Seeds can be purchased in any season. Stock up on Red, Yellow, and Blue seeds before Summer begins so you can plant on the very first day of the season.
Set up cross-breeding rows early: With 28 days per season and nearly 5 days per growth cycle, you get about 5 to 6 breeding attempts per Summer. Starting on day 1 maximizes your chances of producing all five hybrid colors in a single season.
Use Nutrient Soil IV on every flower plot: The 15% pollination boost from Nutrient Soil IV significantly improves cross-breeding success. Stack it with Ripening Fertilizer to shorten growth time and fit more cycles into the season.
Run hybrids through the Grinder immediately: As soon as you produce a hybrid Moonrise, convert it to seeds in the Grinder. This lets you replant that color directly instead of repeating the cross-breeding process. Build multiple Grinders for batch processing.
Automate watering with sprinklers: Missing a watering day resets the breeding timer. Place sprinklers to cover all parent plots and empty middle plots. This is especially critical for cross-breeding rows where consistent watering determines success.
Do not confuse Moonrise with Moonflower: Moonflower is a wild flower gathered from the Moonlit Forest that is universally liked by NPCs. Moonrise is a cultivated Senior Farmer flower with specific color variants. They are different items with different uses.
Keep backup hybrids in a chest: Store a few harvested hybrid Moonrise Flowers of each color as insurance. They can be used for NPC gifts, the Senior Farmer trial, or as parent stock for second-generation breeding experiments.
Purple Moonrise is the best gift investment: Since Purple is a primary hybrid (Red + Blue) with a high success rate, and both Sylvain and Hattie love it, Purple Moonrise offers the best return on your cross-breeding effort as a gifting flower.
Work toward Everlasting Moonrise Seeds: The Eternal Blessings skill (Senior Farmer) gives a chance of dropping Everlasting Seeds when harvesting. Everlasting Moonrise plants grow year-round and never need replanting, letting you produce flowers in every season regardless of Moonrise's normal Summer restriction.
Place Bumblebee hives nearby: Bumblebees in beehives near your flower plots assist with pollination and boost growth speed. This helps both direct flower farming and cross-breeding attempts.
