New article covering Gold, Starsand currency, earning strategies, and spending priorities
Starsand Island uses two currencies: Gold (the main currency for buying items) and Starsand (a progression currency for land expansion and upgrades). Both are earned through gameplay, but in different ways.
Gold is earned by selling items at shops, completing quests, and fulfilling bulletin board requests. Everything you buy from shops costs Gold.
Fishing (early game): The fastest early money maker. Catch fish and sell them at any shop. Deep-sea fish from yacht trips sell for the most.
Processed goods: Jams, pickled vegetables, and cooked meals sell for significantly more than raw ingredients.
Crops: Farming is passive income. Plant high-value crops and sell the harvest.
Animal products: Milk, eggs, wool, honey, and especially truffles from pigs are good sellers.
Moonlit Forest loot: Rare drops from bosses and treasure chests sell for premium prices.
Bulletin board requests: NPCs post daily requests at the Community Center. Easy Gold for delivering items you already have.
Livestock: 75 (Rabbit) to 2,750 (Alpaca/Ostrich) coins
Vehicle blueprints: 400 (Bamboo Raft) to 495,000 (Nitro GTS) coins
Pre-built vehicles: 85,000 to 650,000 coins
Yacht rental: 150 coins per hour for deep-sea fishing
Shop items: Tools, seeds, recipes, furniture all cost Gold
Starsand is a secondary currency primarily used for land expansion and unlocking additional properties. You earn Starsand by:
Completing profession certifications and trials
Reaching milestones and achievements
Filling out the Islandpedia in your phone
Defeating bosses in the Moonlit Forest
Land expansion plots: 50 Starsand (first) up to 300 Starsand (eighth)
Additional properties: 750+ Starsand (Cloudrest Lake is 750)
Workpedia skill upgrades: Various Starsand Point costs
Don't sell raw crops. Process them through a Separator first, then cook or pickle them for much higher returns.
Fish are the fastest early-game income. Once you unlock the ocean (rebuild the port), profits jump significantly.
Build multiple crafting stations to process goods in parallel. One Jam Maker isn't enough.
Save Gold for the Separator early. It's the most important purchase for long-term income because processed ingredients sell for more and are needed for valuable recipes.
Yacht trips for deep-sea fishing are expensive (150 coins/hour) but Humphead Wrasse, Tuna, and Mola Mola sell for enough to make it very profitable.
