Overview
Cooking is a core gameplay system in Starsand Island that transforms raw crops, fish, meat, and foraged ingredients into meals, drinks, jams, and preserved foods. Cooked dishes restore stamina and HP, grant powerful temporary buffs for farming, fishing, combat, and exploration, and sell for significantly more than their raw ingredients.
Unlike most farming games, cooking in Starsand Island takes real in-game time. Each recipe has a cooking duration, so you cannot produce meals instantly. Planning ahead and running multiple cooking stations in parallel is essential. This guide covers every cooking station, how to unlock recipes, which buffs to prioritize, and how to build an efficient kitchen.
All Cooking Stations
Starsand Island has eight distinct cooking and processing stations. Each handles different types of recipes. The two primary cooking stations (Campfire and Gas Stove) share the same recipe pool, while the other six specialize in specific categories.
Primary Cooking Stations
Station | How to Obtain | Function | Recipe Count |
|---|---|---|---|
Campfire | Crafted at Worktable I (starter station, unlocked during Crafter certification) | Cooks meals and dishes. Takes real in-game time per recipe. Build multiple for parallel cooking. | ~92 recipes |
Gas Stove | Blueprint from Aureleaf Kitchen (1,000 Coins), crafted at Worktable | Upgraded Campfire with the same recipe list. Functions identically but looks nicer. | ~92 recipes (same as Campfire) |
The Campfire and Gas Stove handle the vast majority of cooking recipes, including soups, stir-fries, stews, curries, noodles, baked goods, and grilled items. Since every recipe has a cooking duration, building 2 to 3 Campfires or Gas Stoves is strongly recommended so you can run multiple dishes at the same time.
Drink Station
Station | How to Obtain | Function | Recipe Count |
|---|---|---|---|
Juicer | Blueprint from Aureleaf Kitchen (550 Coins), crafted at Worktable | Produces drinks, smoothies, and energy beverages. Fast processing times compared to main stations. | ~20 recipes |
Juicer drinks often provide unique buffs that differ from Campfire/Stove dishes. Notable recipes include Red Grape Juice (Bonus Timber buff), Green Grape Juice (Bonus Ore buff), and Lemonade (high sell value around 750 Coins). The Juicer is worth duplicating alongside your main cooking stations.
Processing Stations
Processing stations convert raw ingredients into intermediate products used in other recipes, or produce preserved foods. Most processing stations are purchased from the Happiness Seed Shop (Graminova) or unlocked through Farming profession progression.
Station | How to Obtain | Function | Recipe Count |
|---|---|---|---|
Separator | Blueprint from General Store (Zerine's) | Splits composite ingredients instantly: wheat into flour, fish into fillets, crops into pulps, bugs into Protein Powder, milk into cream/butter, eggs into yolk/white. | Many conversions |
Grinder | Blueprint from General Store or quest reward | Processes raw ingredients into intermediates: flour, rice flour, ground coffee, spice powder. Similar to Separator but for different products. | Several conversions |
Brewing Barrel | Blueprint from Happiness Seed Shop | Ferments ingredients over time to produce oil, vinegar, sauces, sugar, teas, wines, and ales. Brewing times range from 2 to 4 hours. | ~3 recipes |
Jam Maker | Blueprint from Happiness Seed Shop (1,600 Coins) | Combines fruits and sugar into jams and preserves over time. Premium jams sell for good prices. | ~16 recipes |
Pickling Jar | Blueprint from Happiness Seed Shop (check second page) | Combines vegetables and salt into pickled vegetables and fermented items over time. Long shelf life products. | ~8 recipes |
The Separator is the most important processing station. It instantly converts crops into base ingredients needed by almost every other recipe. Set up a Separator as soon as possible and process ingredients daily. The Grinder serves a similar function for a different set of conversions.

Building an Efficient Kitchen
Since cooking takes real in-game time, your kitchen setup directly affects how many meals you can produce per day. Here is the recommended layout progression:
Starter Kitchen (Apprentice)
1 Campfire (starter station from Crafter certification)
1 Separator (buy blueprint from Zerine's General Store as soon as possible)
Place them near each other on your property for quick access
Intermediate Kitchen (Junior/Intermediate)
2 to 3 Campfires or Gas Stoves for parallel cooking
1 Juicer for drinks and smoothies
1 Separator for processing crops daily
1 Grinder for flour and spice processing
1 Brewing Barrel for vinegar, oil, and sauces
Place near storage chests for efficient material access
Advanced Kitchen (Senior/Expert)
3 to 4 Gas Stoves for high-volume cooking
2 Juicers for drink production
1 to 2 Separators for batch processing
1 to 2 Grinders for intermediate ingredients
1 to 2 Brewing Barrels for fermentation
1 Jam Maker for premium jams
1 Pickling Jar for pickled vegetables
Multiple storage chests nearby with organized ingredients
Ingredient Sourcing Tips
Efficient cooking starts with reliable ingredient supply. Here are the best strategies for keeping your kitchen stocked:
Farm staples: Dedicate crop plots to wheat, rice, peppers, tomatoes, and berries. These appear in the most recipes.
Fish regularly: Many buff recipes require fish or fish products. Keep a few stacks of common fish in your storage.
Batch-process intermediates daily: Run your Separator and Grinder every morning. Convert wheat to flour, fish to fillets, and crops to pulps so they are ready when you need them.
Buy cheap staples from shops: Sugar, salt, cooking oil, and vinegar are cheaper to buy from Zerine's General Store or Aureleaf Kitchen than to produce yourself. Do not waste farm plots growing ingredients that cost a few Coins at the shop.
Harvest monster drops: Enemies in the Moonlit Forest drop meat and special ingredients used in high-tier combat recipes.
Check the Merchant Ship: The ship at Starsand Port refreshes on Mondays and sometimes carries rare ingredients and recipe scrolls.
Cooking for Profit
Cooked dishes generally sell for significantly more than the combined value of their raw ingredients, making cooking one of the best money-making methods in the game.
Lemonade (Juicer): Sells for around 750 Coins using just a Lemon and Sugarcane. One of the highest profit-per-ingredient ratios.
Premium Jams (Jam Maker): Convert cheap fruits into jams that sell for several times the raw ingredient value.
Aged Wine (Brewing Barrel): Fermented beverages take time but command high prices.
Gourmet Platter (Gas Stove): The highest sell value among standard cooked dishes. Requires multiple ingredients but the profit margin is excellent.
Tip: Processing items in the Separator can decrease their total value compared to selling the raw ingredient. Always check the sell price of both the raw material and the processed product before converting.
Common Mistakes
Only building one cooking station. Since recipes take time, a single station bottlenecks your production. Build at least 2 to 3 early on.
Ignoring the Separator. Many recipes require processed ingredients (flour, fillets, powder) that only come from the Separator. Buy the blueprint early and use it daily.
Eating food only for healing. Buff foods are far more impactful than raw healing. A Never Skunked buff for 4 minutes of fishing is worth more than any amount of emergency healing.
Not planning meals before activities. Cook buff foods the night before and eat them right before starting your task (farming, fishing, dungeon run) to maximize the 4-minute duration.
Growing everything yourself. Basic seasonings (salt, sugar, oil) are cheap at shops. Dedicate your farm plots to crops that actually matter for recipes.
