Mars
September 21, 2026 at 06:43 AM
Removed the unsourced Aspect Victoria row; corrected the Talents entry (Stationary Catapult and Clay Pit levels, not the Automatic Scorpio); rewrote Sanguis Celeste as the Crystallized Blood quest and added Declaration of War
Mars is the Roman God of War. He favors the ruthless fighters, gladiators, and military legions, who use swords and spears to decimate the ranks of their enemies. He is one of the seven gods players can restore in Romestead. His Altar Blessing grants +10% overall Melee attack power.
Field | Value |
|---|---|
Name | Mars |
Domain | War |
Region | Pantheon |
Altar Blessing | Blessing of Mars, +10% overall Melee attack power |
Headline quest | Sanguis Celeste |
Sanguis Celeste: Mars asks for a crystal formed from his own shed blood, which his dialogue ties to an old fight with Vulcan. Retrieve the Crystallized Blood from a nearby dungeon and offer it at the Altar to unlock the Clay Pit. Issued at the Altar.
Declaration of War: craft a Declaration of War, start the raid and win it to unlock the Pottery.
God quests as a system arrived in the December 2025 build: each god has quests tied to them that unlock rewards and worship points, and they send the player out to retrieve items, defeat enemies, or complete other objectives. The studio uses them to reveal the story gradually as the gods, who all seem to have lost their memories, regain their power. See Quests for the full list.
Mars is the natural pick for a melee build. His +10% overall Melee attack power Blessing scales with every weapon swing, and the patch 0.23.1_10 worship pass reassigned the Grappling Hook offering to him: Mars unlocks not just damage but battlefield mobility. Co-op groups planning to fight Pyzifax or push into the Volcano biome usually restore Mars early.
The studio's framing of the choice is that after the fall of Rome the gods lost most of their worshippers and their powers; players perform offerings and sacrifices and then choose, together with their friends, whom to restore to glory, and each god has their own set of buffs and technology to unlock along the way. Mars is the war branch of that choice.
Mars responds to war-themed offerings:
Bloodied Banner, Ripped Banner: faction banners are bulk Mars offerings.
Grappling Hook (post-0.23.1_10 patch): the Mars worship route now claims this tool.
Weapon parts: pilum heads and similar war goods.
Raid loot, especially from Declaration of War events.
Major boss drops also pass through the Altar. In the studio's design, each major boss drops a unique item that can be offered to the gods in exchange for knowledge, which arrives as new item recipes, new buildings and technology, or upgrades for existing buildings; bosses are repeatable, so the crafting materials and gear they also drop can be farmed. Which god accepts which boss item is not stated in any studio post. See Enemies and Bosses.
Construction unlocks tied to defenses and clay (Stationary Catapult levels 2 and 3, Clay Pit levels 2 and 3), plus town-defence and raid-chance favors. The Automatic Scorpio upgrades sit in Vulcan's tree, not Mars's.
Citizen-buff favors that improve combat-aligned skill leveling.
Blessing of Mars: +10% overall Melee attack power.
The Gods and Worship: seven-god overview.
Combat: melee weapons and damage types.
Raids: declaration of war events that drop Mars-aligned loot.
