Every Pokemon in Pokemon Pokopia has a Friendship level that represents the personal bond between that Pokemon and the player. Friendship is separate from the Comfort system, which measures how satisfied a Pokemon is with its living conditions. A Pokemon can have high Comfort but low Friendship (or the reverse). However, the two systems are related: high Friendship contributes to Comfort growth, and a comfortable Pokemon is more receptive to friendship-building activities.
Aspect | Friendship | Comfort (Comfy Level) |
|---|---|---|
What it measures | Your personal bond with the Pokemon | How satisfied the Pokemon is with its habitat and surroundings |
How to raise | Complete requests, give gifts, play games, talk | Place preferred furniture, build houses, make roads |
Effect | Best Friend title, name recognition, material gifts, Pokedex mark | Raises Environment Level, unlocks PC Shop stock |
Per-Pokemon? | Yes, individual per Pokemon | Yes, individual per Pokemon |
Tiers | Gradual gauge (no named tiers) | 5 tiers: Iffy, So-So, Okay, Good, Awesome |
There are several ways to increase your Friendship level with a Pokemon:
Activity | Details |
|---|---|
Completing a Pokemon's personal requests is the most effective way to boost Friendship. Each completed request gives a significant increase. | |
Giving Gifts | Hand items to a Pokemon by selecting the gift option. Items matching the Pokemon's Favorites give a larger Friendship boost. |
Playing Games | Play Quizzes, Jump Rope, Hide-and-Seek, or Look That Way with a Pokemon. Each session increases Friendship regardless of whether you win or lose. |
Talking | Simply chatting with a Pokemon raises Friendship by a small amount each time. Talk to your Pokemon daily. |
Following | Having a Pokemon follow you as a companion slowly raises Friendship over time as you explore together. |
As your Friendship level increases with a Pokemon, you unlock several benefits:
Name Recognition: At moderate Friendship, the Pokemon starts calling you by your chosen name instead of just calling you Ditto.
Material Gifts: High-Friendship Pokemon occasionally approach you and offer materials, seeds, or crafting resources as gifts.
Best Friend: At maximum Friendship, the Pokemon becomes your "Best Friend." This adds a special star mark to its entry in the Pokedex.
Pokedex Completion: Reaching Best Friend status with every befriended Pokemon contributes to the 100% completion checklist.
Check the Pokedex under the Specialties and Likes tab to see each Pokemon's Favorite item categories. Gifting Favorites is the most efficient way to raise Friendship.
Complete Requests as soon as they appear. They provide the largest Friendship boost per activity.
Talk to your Pokemon every day. The small Friendship gain from chatting adds up over time.
Play mini-games with Pokemon you want to befriend. You do not need to win for the Friendship bonus.
Friendship and Comfort reinforce each other. A Pokemon with high Comfort gains Friendship faster, so make sure its habitat is well-furnished.
