Overview of all mini-games and side activities
Beyond its core loops of crafting, building, and exploration, Outbound offers a selection of mini-games and leisure activities that add variety and relaxation to the experience. Many of these features were funded as Kickstarter stretch goals and reflect the game's cozy philosophy — they exist for fun and atmosphere rather than competitive challenge.
Fishing is a standalone mini-game accessible near water bodies throughout all biomes. Players cast a line and engage in a timing-based catch mechanic. Different bodies of water contain different fish species, and caught fish can be used in cooking recipes.
Beekeeping is a colony-management mini-game where players establish and maintain beehives. Healthy colonies produce honey, which serves as both a food ingredient and a crafting material. Managing bee health and hive placement adds a light strategy layer.
Kite flying is a relaxation activity that takes advantage of the game's wind system. Players can craft and fly kites in open areas, with weather conditions affecting kite behavior. It has no direct gameplay benefit but contributes to the cozy atmosphere.
When the van is parked, players can set up outdoor camping equipment around it — bonfires, outdoor seating, lanterns, and other decorations. Camping setups create atmospheric vignettes and serve as rest points. The campfire provides warmth during cold nights and a gathering spot in multiplayer sessions.
Maintaining the camper van includes hands-on activities like tire inflation and system repairs. These interactive maintenance tasks function as light mini-games, keeping the van in working order while providing a tactile break from other activities.
