Map and Regions

Tightened the sources given for Watson Bay and Ambrosia County in the place-name tables
Grand Theft Auto VI takes place across the state of Leonida, a fictional version of Florida. Rockstar has said the map is three times the size of the playable area in Red Dead Redemption 2; preview accounts after a visit to Rockstar North put it at roughly twice the size of Grand Theft Auto V's. Six major regions have been confirmed through official trailers, the Rockstar website, and accompanying screenshots.
Rockstar has not released a readable full map of Leonida (checked September 29, 2026). The first official map announced is printed on the back of a double-sided souvenir poster in Grand Theft Auto VI: The Goodtime State Vice City Collection, a collector's box that went up for pre-order on September 24, 2026 and is available to ship from November 19, 2026. Rockstar's store copy says the back of the poster gives a full view of the Leonida map, for planning a road trip to every corner of the Goodtime State. The product photo shows the illustrated Vice City front, with the map side almost entirely covered, so no place names or layout can be read from it. The box does not include the game.
Until the map is published, where the regions sit relative to one another is known only from Rockstar's own region copy and from road signs legible in the trailers. Rockstar's website places Mount Kalaga National Park up against the state's northern border and Ambrosia in the heart of Leonida; the other regions are described without compass directions. Relative positions that circulate beyond those sources are not used on this wiki.
Leonida is divided into counties, but Rockstar has not published a county map. Three county names appear in official trailer footage: Vice-Dale (which contains Vice City), Leonard and Mariana. Ambrosia is one of the six regions named on Rockstar's website. A fifth name, Kelly County, appears to be named on a Vice City exit sign in Trailer 1 (around 0:51), but it is not in Rockstar's website copy or official screenshots (checked September 23, 2026).

Vice City is the game's primary urban center, a sprawling modern-day metropolis inspired by Miami. It sits within Vice-Dale County. For a detailed breakdown of Vice City's districts, landmarks, and enterable locations, see the dedicated Vice City article.
The city is dense and vertical by GTA standards, with Art Deco high-rises, beachfront hotel strips, and distinct neighborhoods each with their own character. It is the cultural and commercial heart of Leonida.
The Leonida Keys are an archipelago of tropical islands inspired by the Florida Keys. Rockstar has not shown where the chain sits on the map. This is where Jason Duval's story begins, as he works for drug runners operating from the islands.
The Keys feature crystal-clear tropical waters, coral reefs for diving, island bars, and boat docks. The area has a laid-back, maritime atmosphere contrasting sharply with Vice City's urban intensity. Underwater exploration and diving are primary activities in this region.
Grassrivers is a vast wetland region inspired by the Florida Everglades, which Rockstar's website calls the untamable jewel of Leonida's crown. The area features dense mangrove forests, shallow waterways navigable by airboat, and thick vegetation. Alligators roam throughout the region, and flamingos are visible in the shallows.
The region appears sparsely populated, with scattered fishing camps, wildlife observation points, and small communities along the waterways. Airboats (fan boats) are the primary mode of transportation here.
Port Gellhorn is described as a decaying coastal resort town with a heavy undercurrent of crime. The area has a run-down, once-prosperous feel, with shuttered businesses, cheap motels, and industrial waterfront areas. It contrasts with Vice City's glamor and the Keys' paradise-like atmosphere. Rockstar calls it Leonida's forgotten coast but has not stated which county it is in or where on the coast it sits. An interstate sign in the Port Gellhorn area in Trailer 2 points east toward Vice-Dale and Mariana counties.
The criminal element in Port Gellhorn appears more blue-collar and desperate compared to Vice City's organized crime. Trailer footage shows working-class neighborhoods, dive bars, and deteriorating infrastructure.
Ambrosia is a rural and industrial region in the central part of Leonida, inspired by inland Florida. The area features sugar cane refineries, agricultural land, and biker culture. Rockstar's edition copy also names Lake Leonida, home to the One-Eyed Willie's mod shop, but has not shown where it lies. The county has a very different feel from coastal Leonida, with more open roads, farmland, and small-town settings.
Mount Kalaga is a forested national park on the state's northern border, the one compass position Rockstar's region copy gives. It draws on Florida's state and national forests. The area provides a wilderness setting with dense tree cover, river systems, and wildlife including deer and panthers.

Rockstar's official website confirms hunting and fishing as activities at Mount Kalaga. Kayaking along the park's rivers is also shown in Trailer 2. The park represents the most rural and natural environment in the game.
Lake Leonida is named in Rockstar's Ultimate Edition copy, which describes One-Eyed Willie's as Lake Leonida's storied mod shop. The name points to a lake modelled on Florida's Lake Okeechobee, but Rockstar has not described the lake or shown where it sits in relation to Ambrosia County or any other region (checked September 29, 2026).
License plates visible in Trailer 2 reference "Gloriana State," which has led to speculation about a second explorable state possibly inspired by Georgia. Rockstar has not confirmed whether Gloriana is accessible in the game or simply a detail on imported vehicles. This remains unverified.
Three comparisons for the size of Leonida circulate. Only the first is Rockstar's own; the other two come from preview accounts by a YouTube creator invited to Rockstar North before the Extended Look. They measure different things and do not contradict one another.
Comparison | Figure |
|---|---|
Against the studio's last open world | The playable area is three times that of Red Dead Redemption 2. This is the figure Rockstar gave on the record around the time of the Extended Look and is the one to lead with. |
Against the previous Grand Theft Auto | Preview accounts put the map at roughly twice the size of the one in Grand Theft Auto V. |
City against city | Preview accounts: Vice City alone is twice the size of that game's city, or around eleven times its size once the surrounding suburbs are counted. |
Rockstar has published no area figure in square kilometres and no crossing time.
Alongside dense urban space, the map extends into rural, swamp, and mountainous terrain, with multiple distinct biome types connected by a highway network.
Five county names are known for the State of Leonida. Rockstar has not published a county map, so only Vice City's place in Vice-Dale County is settled. The table lists where each name appears and what Rockstar has placed in it (checked September 29, 2026).
County | Where the Name Appears | Placed There by Rockstar |
|---|---|---|
Official trailer footage | ||
A northbound Interstate 97 sign and a sheriff's vehicle in Trailer 2 | Nothing stated; the same sign lists Waning Sands | |
An Interstate 404 sign in the Port Gellhorn area in Trailer 2, pointing east with Vice-Dale County | Nothing stated | |
Used for the county of the Ambrosia region; Rockstar's website copy names the region, not the county | The town of Ambrosia and the Allied Crystal sugar refinery | |
A westbound Interstate 404 exit sign in Vice City in Trailer 1 (around 0:51), a tentative reading | Nothing stated |
Vice-Dale's name echoes Miami-Dade County. Pairings of the other counties with real Florida counties are guesses that Rockstar has not confirmed.
Rockstar's edition copy and the trailers name further places without showing where they are. None of the places below has been placed on a published map.

Leonida's regions span at least six distinct biome types:
Biome | Region | Description |
|---|---|---|
Coastal Urban | Dense city blocks, art deco beachfront, high-rise financial district, nightlife strips | |
Wetlands and Swamp | Mangrove swamps, muddy channels, airboat trails; home to alligators, snakes, and hidden smuggling routes | |
Tropical Archipelago | Palm-lined island chains connected by causeways; sandbars, houseboats, fishing villages | |
Mountainous Forest | Elevated terrain with towering forests, rivers, and wildlife; hunting, fishing, and off-road trails | |
Decaying Coastal | Former tourist hub with cheap motels, shuttered attractions, truck stops, and an underground economy | |
Industrial Farmland | Sugar refinery, burning cane fields and a working-class town; biker gang territory |
GTA VI has many enterable interiors across the Leonida map. Interiors shown so far include a nightclub, a strip club, a bar, a gym, a tattoo shop, a bank, a gas station, convenience and liquor stores and a Vice City apartment block; see Enterable Buildings for the full list.
