Overview
Lake Leonida is a place name in Grand Theft Auto VI's state of Leonida. Rockstar's Ultimate Edition copy names it as the home of One-Eyed Willie's, a mod shop specialising in off-road modifications and hand-painted automotive artistry. The name points to a lake modelled on Lake Okeechobee, the large freshwater lake in the interior of real-world Florida, but Rockstar has not described the lake, given its size or shown where it sits (checked September 29, 2026).
Lake Leonida's likely real-world model is Lake Okeechobee, the largest freshwater lake in Florida and one of the largest in the United States. Lake Okeechobee occupies a vast, shallow basin surrounded by farmland, sugar plantations, and small rural communities; Rockstar has not shown whether Lake Leonida's surroundings match.
Geography
Rockstar has not published a map of Leonida, and its region copy does not mention the lake. Placing Lake Leonida beside Ambrosia, or between the Grassrivers and the northern interior, rests on the real-world geography of Lake Okeechobee rather than on anything Rockstar has shown.
Connection to Ambrosia
The real towns on Lake Okeechobee's shore are sugar towns, which is why Ambrosia is usually assumed to sit on Lake Leonida; Rockstar has not linked the two. Rockstar's description of Ambrosia says that "American industry and old school values still reign supreme" there, with the Allied Crystal sugar refinery providing the jobs and the local biker gang providing "almost everything else."
This combination of hardworking industry and outlaw culture gives Ambrosia a distinct identity within the game world. Where Vice City represents urban excess and the Leonida Keys represent tropical isolation, Ambrosia represents the rural, working-class interior of the state.
Visual Appearance
Rockstar has not captioned any screenshot or trailer shot as showing Lake Leonida, so which water in the official images, if any, is the lake has not been established. The name itself comes from the Ultimate Edition copy.
Real-World Inspiration
Lake Leonida appears to be based on Lake Okeechobee, which covers approximately 730 square miles and sits in south-central Florida. Lake Okeechobee is remarkably shallow, with an average depth of only about 9 feet, making it one of the largest shallow lakes in the world. The real lake is surrounded by the Everglades Agricultural Area, where sugar cane farming dominates the economy; a parallel directly reflected in GTA VI's Allied Crystal sugar refinery in Ambrosia.
Lake Okeechobee has also been the subject of environmental controversies involving agricultural runoff, algae blooms, and water management disputes. Whether GTA VI incorporates any satirical commentary on these issues remains to be seen.
Trivia
The name "Leonida" is used for both the state and the lake, mirroring how Florida's Lake Okeechobee is often called the heart of Florida.
Lake Leonida is one of the few inland place names in official material, as most revealed locations are either coastal or urban.
