Initial Machinery Hivemind reference covering Paragon Pathway focus, Backlund headquarters, and Hermit Pathway adjacency
The Machinery Hivemind (机械大同心) is the Beyonder operative arm of the Church of the God of Steam and Machinery in Lord of Mysteries. Like the Nighthawks under the Church of the Evernight Goddess, the Machinery Hivemind handles supernatural cases that fall under their Church's domain. They specialise in industrial-and-mechanical anomalies, machinery cult suppression, and Beyonder-related crimes that intersect with the post-Roselle industrial revolution.
Machinery Hivemind operatives are mostly Beyonders of the Paragon Pathway and its adjacent Hermit Pathway. Members are noted for fanatical devotion to machinery; some go so far as to mechanise a quarter of their bodies, treating physical augmentation as a religious act of devotion to the God of Steam and Machinery.
Mystery Pryer player characters whose pathway sits adjacent to the Paragon Pathway can develop reputation with the Machinery Hivemind through cross-Church operations and shared occult research. The faction is one of the natural alignment options for Hermit-Pathway players.
The Machinery Hivemind operates undercover much like the Nighthawks do, fronting their public face through security companies, industrial inspectorates, and engineering consultancies. They primarily deal with Beyonder-related crimes, cults, and supernatural influences inside the Church's industrial domain.
Because of their Pathway profile, the Machinery Hivemind has access to many Beyonder Weapons and can borrow Sealed Artefacts when needed by following a procedure. Their archive of Sealed Artefacts is smaller than older Churches' collections (the Church of the God of Steam and Machinery is a relatively newer institution) but is concentrated in industrial-themed artefacts.
The Machinery Hivemind's primary headquarters are in Backlund, colocated with the Church of the God of Steam and Machinery's central cathedral in the city's industrial east. Smaller chapter offices operate in other Loen industrial cities and in the Republic of Intis, where the Steam Church's footprint is strongest after Roselle Gustav's industrial revolution.
The Machinery Hivemind appears in the player's campaign primarily through Backlund-arc story content (gated behind the Crimson Test scope and unlocked in later beta phases / live game). Player characters develop reputation with the Machinery Hivemind through:
Investigation cases involving industrial anomalies, machinery cults, or steam-engine sabotage.
Cross-Church coordination missions where the Machinery Hivemind co-leads a case with the Nighthawks or the Mandated Punishers.
Pathway-aligned reputation gains for Hermit-Pathway players whose Mystery Prying research matches the Machinery Hivemind's interests.
Endgame faction-warfare alignment, where the Machinery Hivemind is one of the available faction allegiance options.
The Machinery Hivemind is referenced in the Crimson Test but full faction content is reserved for later beta phases. Tingen-side encounters mention them as the Backlund-domiciled industrial Beyonder organisation; direct contact is gated behind the player reaching Backlund in the Act 2 campaign.
