overview

The rumor system lets players spread gossip about other Zois to damage their reputation. Rumors spread primarily through Bubbly, the in-game social media app, and also through word-of-mouth. Players receive text message updates tracking how far a rumor has spread.

karma requirements

Rumor-spreading requires lowering your karma from neutral. Lower it by selecting negative dialogue options or performing antisocial actions: discarding trash improperly, sending mean texts, fighting or threatening other Zois, stealing money, robbing ATMs, or destroying vending machines.

how to spread rumors

• Via Smartphone: Select Personal Action, then "Send a Rumor Text" (neutral/slightly bad karma) or "Send a Malicious Rumor Text" (bad karma).

• In person: Start a conversation, navigate to More > News, then select the rumor option. Requires bad karma or lower.

consequences

Spreading rumors further lowers the perpetrator's karma. The target's relationships, reputation, and Recognition need all suffer. NPCs may respond with confrontation, counter-rumors, or revenge.
