Reading is a self-improvement activity in inZOI that allows Zois to learn from books and build their skills. Unlike many other activities in the game that are action-oriented, reading is a quiet, contemplative pursuit that pays off through gradual skill development. Zois can read on tablets at home or visit the AR Library for a dedicated study environment. Different book genres provide experience toward different skills, making reading a versatile tool for targeted self-improvement.
To read, a Zoi needs access to a reading device or a book source. The two primary methods are:
Tablet reading: Zois can read books on their personal tablet at home or in any comfortable location. The tablet is part of the Zoi's standard inventory and does not need to be purchased separately.
AR Library: The AR Library is a public venue where Zois can browse a large selection of books and study materials. Reading at the library provides a focused environment that may enhance concentration and learning speed.
Once a Zoi starts reading, the activity continues until the player stops it, the Zoi is interrupted by a need demand, or the book is finished. Reading sessions can last anywhere from a few in-game minutes to several hours, and longer sessions provide proportionally more skill experience.
Books in inZOI fall into several categories, and each category provides experience toward a specific skill or knowledge area. Choosing the right book type is the key to using reading as an efficient skill-building strategy.
Book Type | Skill/Benefit | Description |
|---|---|---|
Romance novels | Stories about love and relationships that improve a Zoi's social and romantic abilities. | |
Logic and puzzle books | Brain teasers, logic puzzles, and analytical content that sharpen reasoning skills. | |
Art books | Books about art techniques, art history, and creative expression that build artistic ability. | |
Health and wellness books | General knowledge | Books about nutrition, exercise, and mental health that contribute to overall well-being knowledge. |
Self-help books | Various | Motivational and personal development content that provides small, broad skill bonuses. |
Novels and fiction | Fun need | Entertaining stories that primarily fulfill the Fun need rather than building a specific skill. |
The skill experience gained from reading is steady but modest per session. Reading is not the fastest way to build any individual skill (practicing the skill directly is usually faster), but it is a low-effort, multi-purpose activity that works well during downtime or as a supplement to active skill practice.
The AR Library is a unique venue that combines traditional library features with augmented reality technology. Zois who visit the AR Library have access to a wider selection of books than what is available on a personal tablet. The library environment also provides a concentration bonus that slightly increases the rate of skill experience gained from reading.
The AR Library is a public venue, so Zois can encounter other readers there, creating low-key social interactions. It is a quiet, studious environment that contrasts with the louder entertainment venues in each city. For Zois pursuing academic or intellectual goals, the library is a natural hub.
Studying at the library is particularly beneficial for school-age Zois. Children and teens who study at the library see improvements in their school performance. Regular library visits help maintain good grades and can unlock educational opportunities and rewards that might otherwise be missed.
For younger Zois, reading plays a direct role in the education system. School-age Zois who read regularly perform better in their classes, earn higher grades, and have a smoother academic progression. The connection between reading and school performance encourages players to balance their younger Zois' recreation time with study habits.
Reading builds Critical Thinking more reliably than almost any other casual activity. Since Critical Thinking is useful across many gameplay systems (problem-solving, career advancement, social intelligence), investing time in reading pays dividends throughout a Zoi's life.
Reading primarily fulfills the Fun need. The Fun gain from reading is moderate; it is not as exciting as going to an amusement park or playing sports, but it is a reliable, low-energy way to keep the Fun meter from bottoming out. Novels and fiction provide the highest Fun gain, while educational books provide a smaller Fun boost alongside their skill benefits.
Reading does not fulfill the Social need. It is an inherently solitary activity, even when done at the library alongside other Zois. For Zois who need both Fun and Social, pairing reading with a group activity afterward is a good strategy.
Match book types to the skills you want to develop. If your Zoi needs Charm for their career, read romance novels. If they need Critical Thinking, pick logic books.
The AR Library provides a concentration bonus. When grinding skill experience through reading, use the library instead of reading at home.
Have school-age Zois read regularly to boost their academic performance. Even a short reading session each evening helps maintain good grades.
Reading is a great activity for late evening when more active options are unavailable. Have your Zoi read before bed to fill Fun and gain some skill experience.
Do not rely solely on reading for skill development. It is best used as a supplement to active skill practice (painting for Art, socializing for Charm, etc.).
Novels and fiction are the best choice when you just need to fill the Fun meter without caring about skill gains.
