Laundry is a household chore in inZOI that keeps your Zoi's clothing clean and presentable. Over time, a Zoi's clothes accumulate dirt and grime from daily activities. Wearing dirty clothing leads to discomfort, reduced skill gains, and negative social reactions from other Zois. To clean their wardrobe, Zois use a washing machine placed in their home through Build Mode. The laundry system ties directly into the Housework skill, the Cleanliness mechanic, and your Zoi's overall Needs satisfaction.
There is currently no laundromat or public washing service available in the game. All laundry must be done at home using a personal washing machine.
Clothes become dirty naturally after being worn for several days. When a Zoi's clothes are soiled, the garments take on a visibly dull, grimy appearance with dark stains, while clean clothes display their full color range and brightness. The visual change makes it easy to tell at a glance whether a Zoi needs to do their laundry.
Wearing dirty clothing has real consequences for gameplay. Your Zoi's mood shifts to Uncomfortable, which slows down skill progression and reduces productivity during tasks. Other Zois may also avoid interacting with a dirty Zoi, making it harder to build friendships and relationships. Keeping clothes clean is not just cosmetic; it directly supports your Zoi's emotional well-being and social life.
To do laundry, you first need a washing machine in your home. Open Build Mode by pressing the I key, then navigate to Furniture in the left menu and select the Bathroom category. Washing machines are found under Bathroom Appliances. You can also type "Washing Machine" in the Build Mode search bar to jump straight to the available options.
Several washing machine designs are available for purchase. The different models are purely cosmetic; they all function identically when it comes to cleaning clothes. Pick whichever design fits your home's style and budget.
Place your washing machine in a spacious area with enough room for a Zoi to stand in front of it and interact comfortably. This is especially important if your household includes child Zois, because the "Ask to do Laundry" interaction requires two Zois to stand together near the machine. Narrow hallways or cramped corners can block the interaction. A bathroom or utility area with open floor space works best.
The washing process is straightforward. Walk your Zoi over to the washing machine and click on it. Select "Wash Laundry" from the interaction menu. Your Zoi will load the machine and run a wash cycle, which completes within seconds of in-game time. Once the cycle finishes, the Zoi's clothes are clean and restored to their original appearance.
When interacting with the washing machine, two washing options are available:

Zois with the Coexistence value are passionate about peace, nature, and environmental stewardship. Washing with natural detergent aligns with those beliefs and fulfills their value, contributing to overall happiness. Any Zoi can use either option, but only those with the Coexistence value receive the additional value satisfaction bonus from the natural detergent choice.
Children cannot operate the washing machine on their own. If a child Zoi has dirty clothes, you need to move them close to the washing machine and select "Ask to do Laundry" from the interaction menu. This brings up a list of eligible household members, including Teenagers, Young Adults, Adults, and Elders. Select an older Zoi who is currently at home, and they will walk over to the machine and run a load that cleans both their clothes and the child's.
Keep in mind that the chosen household member must be home for the interaction to work. If nobody is available, the child will have to wait. There also needs to be enough floor space near the washing machine for two Zois to stand side by side, so plan your furniture layout accordingly.
Rather than manually directing your Zoi to wash clothes every time they get dirty, you can set up automatic laundry through the Preferences system. Open the Zoi Card and navigate to the Preferences tab. You will see a list of household activities. Find the Laundry preference and enable it so that it displays a yellow heart icon. Once active, your Zoi will autonomously walk to the washing machine and start a load whenever their clothes become dirty, without any player input.
This is particularly useful for busy households or players who want to focus on other activities like careers, skill building, or socializing without worrying about manual laundry management. It works the same way as other Preference-driven autonomous behaviors in the game.
Doing laundry contributes to your Zoi's Housework skill progression. Each time a Zoi runs a wash cycle, they earn experience toward this skill. The Housework skill encompasses a range of domestic activities, and laundry is one of several ways to level it up.

As the Housework skill increases, your Zoi becomes more efficient at all domestic tasks. Higher skill levels unlock better cleaning equipment, such as the Premium Vacuum Cleaner at Housework level 3 (costing 450 Meows). Regularly doing laundry alongside other household chores is a reliable way to keep the skill progressing.

Enable the Laundry preference in your Zoi Card to let your Zoi handle washing automatically.
If you have a Zoi with the Coexistence value, use the Wash with Natural Detergent option to satisfy their value and keep clothes clean at the same time.
Combine laundry with other cleaning tasks like vacuuming and surface scrubbing to build your Housework skill efficiently.
Do not ignore dirty clothes on child Zois. Since children cannot use the machine themselves, check on them regularly and have an older household member run a load on their behalf.
Keep your Zoi's clothes clean before important social events or job shifts. The Uncomfortable mood from dirty clothing can hurt performance and relationship building.
All washing machine models work the same way, so choose based on style and budget without worrying about performance differences.
