Expanded with mythological background, third eye mechanics, story role, ability details, and tips
Yang Jian, also known as Erlang Shen in Chinese mythology, is a fighter-class hero in Honor of Kings: World. He possesses a third eye that grants supernatural perception, and he serves as the chosen successor of Nuwa, the leading goddess of the game's pantheon. His Flow style combines martial skill with divine power, making him a versatile warrior capable of both sustained combat and powerful burst through his divine transformations.
Yang Jian occupies a unique position in the roster as a warrior with supernatural enhancements. While other fighters rely purely on weapon skill and physical strength, Yang Jian's third eye and divine connection give him access to abilities that blur the line between fighter and mage. He can reveal hidden enemy weaknesses, enhance his own attacks with divine energy, and temporarily unlock powers granted by Nuwa herself.
Yang Jian wields a three-pointed double-edged lance, a weapon rooted in his mythological depictions. His normal attack chains combine sweeping lance strikes with precise thrusts, providing both area coverage and single-target focus. The lance's reach sits between a spear and a halberd, giving him comfortable mid-range melee control.
What elevates Yang Jian above a standard warrior is his Third Eye Gaze ability. Activating the third eye reveals glowing weak points on enemies. Attacks that hit these revealed weak points deal significantly increased damage. This mechanic rewards accurate targeting and turns Yang Jian into a precision fighter who deals more damage to specific zones than other warriors do to the full body.
Trident Cleave: sweeping attacks with the three-pointed lance that hit in wide arcs. This is Yang Jian's primary area damage tool, effective for controlling space and hitting multiple enemies.
Third Eye Gaze: activates the third eye to reveal enemy weaknesses. Highlighted weak points appear as glowing targets on the enemy model. Hitting these points deals increased damage and builds posture damage faster, accelerating Posture Breaks.
Heaven's Strike: a diving attack from above that deals area damage on landing. Yang Jian leaps into the air and slams down with his lance, creating a shockwave on impact.
Divine Decree (Ultimate): temporarily unlocks Nuwa's power, enhancing all of Yang Jian's abilities for a duration. During Divine Decree, his attacks deal additional divine damage, his third eye is permanently active, and his movement speed increases. This transformation represents the peak of Yang Jian's combat potential.
Erlang Shen (Yang Jian) is one of the most powerful deities in Chinese mythology. He is the nephew of the Jade Emperor, ruler of the heavens. His third truth-seeing eye can perceive reality as it truly is, seeing through illusions, transformations, and deceptions. In the classic novel Journey to the West, Yang Jian is one of the few beings capable of matching Sun Wukong (the Monkey King) in combat.
Yang Jian is also closely associated with his faithful companion, the Howling Celestial Dog (Xiao Tian Quan), and is often depicted carrying his three-pointed double-edged lance. His mastery of 72 transformations mirrors that of Sun Wukong, and his unwavering sense of justice makes him a protector of the mortal realm.
In the Investiture of the Gods (Fengshen Yanyi), another foundational Chinese mythological text, Yang Jian plays a central role as a warrior of great power and righteousness. His connection to Nuwa in Honor of Kings: World draws from these mythological traditions, positioning him as a bridge between the divine and mortal realms.
Yang Jian occupies a central position in Honor of Kings: World's main storyline. As Nuwa's chosen successor, he carries the burden of protecting the mortal realm from threats the gods can no longer address directly. His third eye allows him to perceive truths hidden from ordinary people, making him a key figure in unraveling the mysteries of Celestia and the ancient powers that shaped Primaera.
Always activate Third Eye Gaze at the start of a boss encounter. The revealed weak points persist until the ability ends, and hitting them accelerates Posture Break significantly.
Divine Decree is a major damage window. Save it for boss phases where you can attack freely, such as after a stagger or during a predictable attack rotation.
Heaven's Strike provides vertical repositioning. Use it to dodge ground-based area attacks while simultaneously dealing damage on landing.
Yang Jian's lance has longer reach than swords but shorter reach than full polearms. Maintain mid-range spacing to stay in your optimal attack distance.
In co-op raids, Yang Jian's Third Eye Gaze benefits only the player using him. Communicate revealed weak points to teammates so they can focus attacks on the same zones.
