Overview

Traversal in Honor of Kings: World goes well beyond walking and sprinting. The game provides a layered system of movement options designed to match the scale and verticality of Primaera's 64 square kilometer open world. From ground mounts and hoverboards to aerial gliders, grappling hooks, and underwater swimming, each traversal method serves a specific purpose and opens up different exploration opportunities. The variety ensures that moving through the world feels engaging rather than tedious, regardless of the terrain.
Horses
Horses serve as the primary ground mount and are among the first traversal tools players unlock during the early game. Summoning a horse is instant and can be done in most open-world areas outside of combat. Horses significantly increase ground speed and are the default choice for covering long distances across flat or gently rolling terrain. They handle well on roads and open fields, making them the workhorse (quite literally) of overland travel.
While horses are functional and reliable, they cannot scale steep surfaces or cross bodies of water, which is where other traversal methods become necessary. Players will naturally transition between horses and other tools depending on the terrain ahead.
Flying Mounts
Flying mounts provide full aerial freedom, allowing players to soar above the landscape and travel between distant points without worrying about terrain obstacles. These mounts are unlocked later in the progression than horses and represent a significant expansion of exploration capability. With a flying mount, players can reach elevated areas, cross mountain ranges, and survey the world from above to spot points of interest before descending.
Flying mounts also serve as status symbols in social hubs. Rare and visually distinctive flying mounts obtained through challenging content or special events are among the most sought-after cosmetic rewards in the game. Seeing another player riding an uncommon mount in a hub area signals their accomplishments to other players.
Glider
The glider provides a lightweight aerial traversal option that does not require a mount. Players can deploy the glider from any elevated position to descend gradually while covering horizontal distance. It is particularly useful for jumping off cliffs, tall structures, or the dragon bones in Dragon Valley and converting that height into forward movement. The glider lacks the sustained flight capability of flying mounts but is available earlier and can be deployed instantly without a summoning animation.
Hoverboard
The hoverboard is a ground-level traversal device that offers a faster, more agile alternative to horseback riding. It excels on smooth surfaces and maintains speed through gentle terrain changes. The hoverboard's visual design leans into the game's blend of fantasy and technology, hovering a few inches above the ground with visible energy effects. Players who prefer a more modern aesthetic to horseback riding often default to the hoverboard for general exploration.
Grappling Hook
The grappling hook is a versatile tool for both vertical climbing and horizontal swinging. Players can fire the grappling hook at designated anchor points scattered throughout the world to pull themselves upward, swing across gaps, or reach otherwise inaccessible ledges. Unlike mounts, which are primarily for covering distance, the grappling hook is a precision tool for navigating specific environmental challenges.
Many of the game's exploration puzzles and hidden collectible locations are designed around grappling hook usage. Reaching a treasure chest on a distant cliff face or swinging between anchor points inside a cave system turns traversal into an active gameplay loop rather than passive travel.
Swimming and Underwater Exploration
Bodies of water in Primaera are fully explorable. Players can swim across lakes and rivers on the surface, and dive underwater to explore submerged areas. Underwater zones contain unique resources, hidden caves, and environmental storytelling that cannot be accessed through any other means. An oxygen meter limits dive duration, encouraging players to plan their underwater excursions and surface periodically.
Rare Mounts as Cosmetic Rewards
Beyond their functional role, mounts serve as visible markers of player achievement. Rare mounts with unique visual effects, custom animations, and distinctive designs are awarded for completing difficult content, reaching specific milestones, or participating in limited-time events. In social gathering spaces like Jixia Academy, players frequently display their rarest mounts as a form of self-expression and status. The mount collection system encourages players to engage with diverse content types to expand their roster of available rides.
