Jiang Ziya is a Mage hero in Honor of Kings: World. He is described as the most unique mage in the roster because he combines strong burst damage output with support-oriented debuffs that weaken enemies for the entire team. His Flow style revolves around area denial, defense reduction, and a devastating three-wave ultimate. While other mages focus purely on damage, Jiang Ziya functions as a force multiplier who makes everyone around him more effective.
This hybrid identity means Jiang Ziya is always valuable in group content. Even when his own damage numbers are modest, the defense reduction from his abilities amplifies the damage output of every teammate. In eight-player raids, a well-played Jiang Ziya can increase total team DPS more than any other single hero selection.
Jiang Ziya fills a hybrid role between damage dealer and support debuffer. His primary ability, Divine Seal, reduces enemy physical and magical defense by up to 20% for all party members, not just Jiang Ziya himself. This means his team contribution goes far beyond his personal damage numbers.
He excels at controlling space and softening targets for burst-oriented allies like Li Bai or Zhou Yu. The standard approach is to apply Divine Seal for the defense reduction, use Divine Punishment for crowd control and aerial setup, then follow up with Universal Law for burst. In team play, Jiang Ziya players prioritize debuff uptime over personal damage.
Divine Seal (Skill 1): places a seal on a targeted area that applies damage over time and a slow of up to 70%. Affected enemies also have their physical and magical defense reduced by up to 20% for the duration. This ability is central to his support identity and should be placed before the team commits to a burst window.
Divine Punishment (Skill 2): marks an area on the ground that activates twice, dealing magic damage to all enemies caught within. On the third activation, enemies are launched into the air. The launch sets up aerial combos for teammates using Flow styles with strong aerial attacks, such as Li Bai or Ling.
Universal Law (Ultimate): channels divine energy and releases three shockwaves in a straight line. The first two waves deal moderate damage, but the third and final wave delivers massive burst damage. All three waves must connect for maximum output. The total damage of a full-hit Universal Law is among the highest single-ability damage numbers in the game.
Jiang Ziya, also known as Jiang Taigong or Jiang Shang, is a legendary figure from ancient Chinese history. He was a military strategist and advisor who helped King Wen and King Wu of Zhou overthrow the Shang Dynasty around 1046 BCE, founding the Zhou Dynasty. His patience and wisdom are symbolized by the famous story of fishing without bait at the Wei River. Rather than using a hook, he held his line above the water, saying that the fish who were meant to come would come on their own. This became a famous metaphor for patience and letting the right opportunity present itself.
In the Investiture of the Gods (Fengshen Yanyi), a foundational Chinese mythological novel, Jiang Ziya is portrayed as a figure who wields divine authority and assigns positions to gods. This role of commanding divine forces is reflected in his ultimate ability, Universal Law, which channels divine judgment in three devastating waves.
In Primaera, Jiang Ziya's Flow style preserves his reputation as both a sage and a warrior. The debuff-focused design reflects his historical role as a strategist who won battles through preparation and weakening the enemy's position before the decisive strike.
In eight-player raids, Jiang Ziya serves as a force multiplier. The standard raid strategy is to apply Divine Seal on the boss before the team enters a Posture Break stagger window. The 20% defense reduction amplifies every teammate's damage during that window, often resulting in more total team damage than bringing a second pure DPS mage would provide.
His crowd control from Divine Punishment also provides setup for teammates. Launching enemies into the air during add phases gives aerial-focused heroes free damage windows. In organized raid groups, Jiang Ziya's debuff timing is coordinated with the team's burst rotation for maximum effect.
Always lead with Divine Seal before major damage phases. The 20% defense reduction applies to the entire team's damage, not just yours.
Divine Punishment's third-hit launch can interrupt dangerous boss attacks if timed correctly. Practice the timing on regular enemies first.
Universal Law deals maximum damage when all three waves connect. Use it during stagger windows when bosses are immobile to guarantee full hits.
Pair Jiang Ziya with Wang Zhaojun's freezing abilities. Frozen enemies cannot dodge Universal Law's three waves.
In co-op, communicate when Divine Seal is active so teammates know to commit their burst abilities during the defense reduction window.
