Expanded publisher role, pre-release programmes table, edition strategy, and IP stewardship context
THQ Nordic is the publisher of Gothic 1 Remake and the owner of the Gothic intellectual property. The company set up Alkimia Interactive in Barcelona in March 2021 specifically to develop the remake, after declining to continue work with the original developer Piranha Bytes.
THQ Nordic handles publishing, marketing, communications, edition strategy, and physical distribution for the remake. Alkimia Interactive handles the development itself. The publisher-side responsibilities visible from outside the studio include:
Area | Responsibility |
|---|---|
Release strategy | Set the June 5, 2026 launch date for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S; runs the launch-window press cadence. |
Editions | Standard Edition (PC and console), Sleeper-on-the-Wall Collector's Edition (7,500 units globally), regional retail boxes. See Editions and Pre-Order Bonuses for SKU details. |
Pre-order bonuses | PC soundtrack bonus, console digital pre-orders include a free Gothic Classic copy of the 2001 original, regional D/A/CH retailer steelbook while stock lasts. |
Voice cast and localization | Coordinates the four-language full-voice rollout (English, German, Polish, Russian) plus text-based localization for six more languages. See Voice Cast and Localization and Languages and Accessibility. |
Press / Making-Of | Runs the public Making-Of episode series, the Voices Across the Colony four-language behind-the-scenes series (November 2025), the 'Colony Calling' February 2026 release-date confirmation, and the Sleeper-on-the-Wall Collector's reveal. |
Storefronts | Steam, GOG, PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, THQ Nordic EU/US store, retail. |
Several publisher-side initiatives have run ahead of the June 5, 2026 launch:
Programme | Window | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
Voices Across the Colony | November 2025 | Four behind-the-scenes episodes covering the English, German, Polish, and Russian voice work. |
Colony Calling release-date reveal | February 2026 | Announcement trailer locking in the June 5, 2026 release date and opening the pre-order campaign. |
Sleeper-on-the-Wall Collector's reveal | April 2026 | Collector's Edition contents and 7,500-unit global allocation announcement. |
Nyras Prologue console rollout | September 2025 | Console version of the free standalone demo for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; the PC version of the demo had been available since February 2025. |
Making-Of episode series | Ongoing | Recurring dev-team interviews covering engine, art, combat, and content. |
THQ Nordic also holds the Gothic Classic re-releases (the 2001 Gothic sold on modern storefronts) that are being bundled with physical console pre-orders of the remake. Its stewardship of the IP covers both keeping the original game available and shipping the remake; the publisher has stated that the remake is a continuation of the Gothic line rather than a replacement of the 2001 original.
THQ Nordic founded Alkimia Interactive in March 2021 specifically to build the remake. The studio is based in Barcelona and grew from around 45 employees in 2023 to more than 50 in 2024, with team leads recruited in part from the original Piranha Bytes lineage. See Alkimia Interactive for the studio profile and Engine and Modding for the technical stack the publisher's investment funded.
