Sergio was the king of Saramis and the father of Theodora and Dyan. He is already dead when Fortune's Weave opens, killed by an assassin, and the fallout from that killing is what pushes Theodora out of the palace and into the Heroic Games. He is a backstory figure rather than a unit, and he has never been shown on screen as a playable character.

King of Saramis
Saramis sits at the southern end of the continent of Dagda as a vassal state of the Dagdan Empire, with its royal capital at Megaira. Sergio ruled it before Theodora did. Two of the retainers who now serve her have held their posts since his reign: Bonaventure as the crown's Mastermind and Tobias as its Lionheart. Both served the old king, so Theodora inherits a court that already knows how the kingdom runs.
The Succession
Sergio named Theodora his heir even though she is the younger of his two children, which passed over his son Dyan. Bonaventure states the reasoning flatly in dialogue: "Our late King Sergio understood this. That is why he chose Theodora as his successor!" Dyan does not accept the decision and holds that he is the better claim to the throne.
The Assassination
Sergio is killed by an assassin, and that killing is the event Theodora's story starts from. Accounts of the scene describe Dyan as a conspirator in the plot, which turns a succession argument into an open break between brother and sister and leaves Theodora queen of a kingdom that has just lost its king.
Preview material fills in the surrounding detail: Theodora had been away on a long tour of duty at Fort Zanbar and was back in the royal capital for the first time in years, and the same attack cost her the right arm she fights with. Those specifics come from text seen in preview builds rather than from any official announcement, so they are best treated as unconfirmed until Nintendo states them.
Name
Theodora's full name, Theodora Sergio Sabangrain, carries her father's name in the middle position. She uses the full form when she introduces herself as queen, which is the closest the game comes to putting him on screen.
