Fortuna is the goddess of fate in the Dagdan pantheon, and the character who makes the game's premise possible. When the world reaches its end in 1454, it is Fortuna who identifies four warriors from five years earlier with the power to change how things went, and Fortuna who sends Eshmel back to intervene in their pasts. The turn-rewind ability players use in every battle, Fortuna's Blessing, is named after her and performed by her.

The Japanese name is フォトナ, Fotona, a slight alteration of Fortuna, the Roman goddess of luck and fate. She is one of the seven deities with a temple on Temple Row, and her own profile is blunt about her disposition: capricious, and inclined to find effort tiresome. It is an unusual character note for the figure the plot depends on, and it colours how she talks to the protagonist.
By 1454 on the Dagdan calendar, the land faces annihilation at the hands of the revived demon god Balor. Fortuna's answer is not to fight him in the present. As the goddess who governs fate, she can see forward, and one of her visions showed her a disturbance in the causality of the land. She looked back five years instead, picked out four warriors who fought in the Heroic Games of 1449, and sent a single soul back to change their paths so that the forces needed to stop Balor exist when the moment comes.
Her opening line in the August 2026 presentation is a recruitment pitch rather than a prophecy: "We'll never win the battles ahead without them. We need as many as we can recruit." The four Heroes are not optional allies in her plan, they are the plan.
The mechanism for the time travel sits underneath her temple. Fortuna describes it herself: "'Tis a special place. I call it the Obelisk Chamber. Only a few people know this chamber exists beneath my temple." The room is a pocket of safety inside a capital that is being swallowed by the underworld, free of the undead outside, and it holds four obelisks. Touching one lets a visitor reach into the past of one of the four warriors who fought at the Games. It doubles as a small hub in the ruined era, where the survivors Fortuna and Eshmel rescue can be spoken to between excursions.
The turn-rewind in battle is her doing. After any move, the player can wind the fight back to an earlier point and take a different line, which the presentation frames as the safety net for a lost unit rather than as a difficulty setting. In-game dialogue attributes the power behind it to the progenitor god rather than to Fortuna herself, with Fortuna describing it as a power over heavenly time inherited from Sothis. That attribution comes from a single Japanese line, so it is worth treating as flavour rather than as a settled rule. The mechanics live on Fortuna's Blessing.
