Answerer is the sword Dietrich carries in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. Its in-game help text calls it a Hero's Relic and ties it to a single wielder: it allows Dietrich, and only Dietrich, to use the Bloodletting combat art. Of all the relics the game has said return, Answerer is the one confirmed by name ahead of launch.
Stats
Only part of the weapon line has been published. The fields below are the ones that carry a value; Might, Weight, Hit and critical rate have not been shown.
Field | Value |
|---|---|
Type | Sword |
Weapon rank | E |
Range | 1 |
Uses | 20 |
Worth | Not announced |
Combat art | Bloodletting, restricted to Dietrich |
The E rank is worth flagging. It is the lowest rung on the weapon scale, which reads oddly for a legendary relic, and it sits in the pre-launch data next to an acknowledged placeholder icon. It may well change before release. Separately, one preview showed the weapon's maximum durability at 40 rather than 20, so the 20 figure may be a mid-run reading rather than a cap.
Bloodletting
Bloodletting is the combat art Answerer unlocks, and it cannot be used with any other weapon. It costs 2 durability, adds 3 to Might, raises critical rate by 20 and avoid by 10, and works at range 1. Its description flags it as effective against dragon foes. The art's restriction is written into the description twice over: it names Dietrich and it requires the crest he carries alongside the relic itself, so no other unit can pick up the sword and use the art.
Because it is a combat art rather than an ordinary swing, using Bloodletting is what drains the sword. Regular attacks with Answerer cost nothing, which is the general rule for durability in this game and is covered on Combat Arts.
Flavour Text and Provenance
The English help text reads: "A Hero's Relic. Allows Dietrich use of the Bloodletting combat art." The blade's history comes out through dialogue rather than through a description. A ship passenger describes it as a fell blade and a thing of legend, said to have been wielded by the hand of one of the 10 Elites, by Lamine herself. That framing is a character speaking in-fiction, not a codex entry, and nothing else in the pre-launch material establishes who the 10 Elites were or whether the claim is accurate inside the story, so treat it as hearsay a character believes rather than settled history.
What is firmer is the House Lamine connection. Dietrich belongs to that house and the sword is described as passing down its family line to him. The crest that gates Bloodletting is the one associated with the same house, which is why the relic and the bearer cannot be separated.
Behaviour Outside Battle
Answerer is reported to react to crests in its surroundings, glowing red and flipping out the spines along its blade near objects or entities that carry crest properties. On the world map this appears to feed a Dietrich-only ability that flushes out enemies hidden on the field, which lines up with what the presentation showed of his exploration commands. Both of these are single-source details ahead of launch, so treat the naming and the exact behaviour as provisional.
