Ingredients are consumable items used in cooking and baking recipes in inZOI. While many basic recipes only require the base cost in Meow to prepare, more advanced dishes call for specific ingredients such as fish fillets, tomatoes, or other items obtained through farming, fishing, and gathering.
Ingredients are stored in the household refrigerator and are consumed when a recipe that requires them is prepared. Managing your ingredient supply is an important part of running an efficient kitchen, especially when pursuing higher-level recipes that have specific material requirements.
Not all recipes in inZOI require specific ingredients. The recipe system works on two levels:
Basic recipes: Many entry-level cooking and baking recipes only require spending Meow to prepare. No specific ingredient items are needed. These are ideal for Zois just starting to learn the Cooking skill.
Advanced recipes: Higher-level recipes require one or more specific ingredient items in addition to the Meow cost. If the required ingredients are not in the refrigerator, the recipe cannot be prepared.
When a Zoi prepares a recipe that requires ingredients, the items are automatically consumed from the refrigerator. The recipe menu shows which ingredients are needed and whether they are currently available.
Ingredients come from several sources:
Source | Ingredient Types | Details |
|---|---|---|
Vegetables, fruits, herbs | Grow crops on your home lot or at a farm. Harvest yields ingredients for cooking. | |
Fish fillets, seafood | Catch fish at fishing spots across the cities. Different locations yield different fish types. | |
Gathering | Wild plants, foraged items | Some ingredients can be gathered from the environment while exploring. |
Shopping | Various | Some ingredients may be available for purchase at stores and markets. |
Here are some known recipes and the specific ingredients they require:
Recipe | Required Ingredient | Ingredient Source |
|---|---|---|
Flatfish Sushi | Fish Fillet | |
Tomato Pasta | Tomato | |
Garden Salad | Fresh vegetables | |
Grilled Fish | Fish Fillet |
The number and variety of required ingredients generally increases with recipe difficulty. Simple recipes might need one ingredient, while complex dishes can require multiple different items.
All food ingredients are stored in the household refrigerator. The refrigerator serves as the central storage point for anything that will be used in cooking and baking. When a Zoi harvests crops, catches fish, or gathers items, the ingredients are placed into the refrigerator automatically if one is available on the lot.
A household without a refrigerator cannot store perishable ingredients. Purchasing a refrigerator in Build Mode is essential for any household that plans to cook regularly.
A higher Cooking skill unlocks more recipes, many of which require specific ingredients. As your Zoi's Cooking skill progresses from beginner to advanced, the recipes become more complex and the ingredient requirements increase. This creates a natural progression where players start with simple no-ingredient dishes and gradually work toward elaborate meals that showcase their farming and fishing efforts.
Start a small crop farm early to build up a steady supply of vegetable ingredients.
Fish regularly at different locations. Various fish types serve as ingredients for different seafood recipes.
Check recipe requirements before cooking. The recipe menu displays which ingredients are needed and whether you have them.
Buy a refrigerator as one of your first Build Mode purchases. Without one, harvested ingredients have nowhere to go.
Higher-level recipes produce better quality food that satisfies Hunger more effectively, making the ingredient investment worthwhile.
Grow a variety of crops rather than focusing on a single type. Different recipes call for different vegetables.
