Echoes of Aincrad has been patched steadily since launch. The version currently running is shown on the title screen, which is the quickest way to confirm whether a fix has reached your install. Updates ship to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, though the console rollouts do not always land on the same day.
This page records what each patch changed. It is a summary of the published notes rather than a datamine, so balance entries reflect the wording used in the notes: the developers list which systems were touched without publishing before-and-after numbers.
Version Summary
Version | Released | Headline Change |
|---|---|---|
Ver. 1.0.5 | August 7, 2026 | Difficulty rebalance from Story through Hard, a per-weapon SP economy rework, and a broad Sword Skill pass |
Ver. 1.0.4 | July 16, 2026 | Fixes for a stuck Arc Boss, a black-screen quest completion, and failed enemy phase transitions |
Ver. 1.0.3 | July 10, 2026 (Xbox Series X|S from this date; earlier on other platforms) | Demo save-data transfer, a broad combat balance pass, and a free item set |
Ver. 1.0.2 | Launch window | Baseline version required for demo save-data transfer |
Ver. 1.0.5 is still the current build as of September 16, 2026. No patch has shipped in the six weeks since, on any platform, which makes it the longest gap between updates since release.
Ver. 1.0.5
The August 7 update is the largest balance pass since launch, and unusually for a patch of this size it comes with a written statement of intent. The stated goal was to draw out the appeal of the different weapon types so that both new players and players who had already finished the game would find something fresh. It shipped to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The notes also announce forward plans: a new difficulty level above Very Hard is planned within 2026, and a further balance pass is expected to arrive alongside it. Balance work is also expected to accompany DLC releases. See Difficulty Modes for how the existing tiers changed here.
Feature Additions
A toggle was added for the severing-kill animation. Defeating an enemy with a severing attack normally triggers a slow-motion flourish and a camera move, and that presentation can now be switched off under Settings in the Game Play Setting tab.
Difficulty Rebalance
The development team judged Story through Hard to be sitting far below Very Hard, to the point where the lower tiers were not delivering much resistance at all. Three separate levers moved.
Change | Detail |
|---|---|
Enemy parameters | Enemy HP and attack power increased on Normal and Hard. |
Enemy spawn counts | More enemies appear on Story, Normal, and Hard. |
Multi-hit relief | Damage from some enemies’ multi-hit attacks was reduced while the player is under Sword Skill Super Armor, softening the one case where the extra spawns would have been punishing to push through. |
Quest bosses | HP and attack power raised on some quest bosses. See Boss Battles. |
Quest supplies | The main quest Summons now starts the player with more Healing Potions and newly grants a Bombstone. |
Partner Adjustment
One partner was singled out. Argo’s Support Skill Analyze had its Support SP increase and its additional-damage correction value reduced. The stated reason is worth noting, because it is a design comment rather than a bug fix: the buff was strong enough that it was narrowing players’ partner choices, so the nerf is aimed at widening the viable roster rather than at Argo specifically. The wider system is covered on Combination Skills and Support Skills.
Per-Weapon SP Economy
The most build-relevant change in the patch. The amount of SP gained when Normal Attacks and Heavy Attacks connect was retuned per weapon type, on the principle that fast weapons with high hit counts were generating SP too freely while slow weapons with low hit counts were starved.
Direction | Weapon Types |
|---|---|
Increased SP gain | |
Reduced SP gain |
In practice this narrows the gap in how often each weapon type can fire off Sword Skills. Two-handed builds spend less time weaving basic attacks to refill the meter, and the one-handed weapons that could previously chain skills almost continuously now have to work for it.
Individual Weapon Adjustments
Two specific weapons were named, both for their unique MODs rather than their base stats. This is the first time first-party notes have named individual weapons at this level of detail; the wider system is covered on EX-MODs.
Weapon | Unique MOD | Change |
|---|---|---|
Dress Swords (Sword) | Sword Barrier | Barrier value granted reduced, cooldown extended. |
Mournflower (Dagger) | Supreme Shooter | Additional damage multiplier on thrown Sword Skills reduced, cooldown shortened. |
Sword Skill Pass
The notes describe this as a general improvement in feel, with a handful of outliers pulled back. Most of the upward adjustments are the same change repeated: faster skill motion and a shorter window from startup to completion, which makes a skill less risky to commit to. Several two-handed skills also had their SP cost reduced specifically at low skill levels, easing the early game for those weapons. The full per-skill breakdown lives on Sword Skills.
No Rapier skills were named in this patch, so rapier users saw the SP-gain reduction without any compensating skill changes.
Bug Fixes
The Summons black screen was fixed. After unsealing the boss area on that quest, the game could rarely stay behind a black screen following the enemy appearance sequence. This was the known issue left open by Ver. 1.0.4.
Players could rarely become invincible during quests.
In some quests, players could reach boss areas without first accessing the Magical Seals.
An orange hit-effect could persist after defeating close-range enemies with the dagger skills Single Shoot and Strike Rain.
Inventory item counts could decrease during quests when the bonus MOD Items Carried + 1 was active through the Soulforce Robe’s unique MOD Armor of Wisdom at 30 INT.
An enemy intended to be undefeatable could be defeated using the sword Death’s Salvation and its unique MOD Soul Bite, which halted quest progression.
Other minor issues.
Ver. 1.0.4
The July 16 update is a targeted bug-fix patch with no balance changes. Four issues were named in the notes.
Issue | What Was Happening |
|---|---|
Arc Boss stuck underground | On a subquest, the Arc Boss Thicket Visgo could stay beneath the ground permanently if certain attacks connected while it was playing its digging animation. |
Player model not rendering | Under specific equipment combinations, the player character could fail to display correctly during some event scenes. |
Black screen after quest completion | Clearing the quest known in English as Original Sin with a partner outside a specific set could leave the screen black instead of fading back in. The set named in the notes was Iori, Zash, and Argo. |
Failed phase transition | Reducing certain enemies to zero HP and destroying their Break Marker could occasionally fail to trigger the next phase of the fight. See the combat system page for how Break Markers normally resolve. |
Known Issue Still Open
Resolved in Ver. 1.0.5. The August 7 patch lists this black-screen case among its fixes, so the workaround below is no longer needed on an up-to-date install. It is kept here as a record of what the 1.0.4 notes said at the time.
One issue was confirmed as still under investigation at the time of the patch. On the quest published in English as Summons, removing the barrier that seals the boss area can rarely leave the game running behind a black screen after the enemy introduction sequence. Normally the screen fades back in within a few seconds of the sequence ending or being skipped.
The published workaround is to close the game from the platform's system menu and relaunch it. The notes add an important clarification for anyone running Death Game Mode: if you quit before your HP reaches zero while this issue is happening, your save data is not deleted.
Ver. 1.0.3
The largest post-launch patch so far. It added the demo save-transfer feature and ran a wide balance pass across combat.
Feature Additions
Save data from the free demo can be carried into the full game. The notes state that transfer works from Ver. 1.0.2 onward and that the latest update must be applied before attempting it.
Balance and Improvements
Area | Change |
|---|---|
Per-weapon performance adjusted. | |
Sword Skill, Combination Skill, and Support Skill performance adjusted. | |
Attack values adjusted for Reversal Slash, Parry Slash, and Dodge Slash. | |
Enemy parameters adjusted, and the number of enemies that spawn was retuned per difficulty. | |
Movement | Step animation changed and its invincibility window extended. Rolling and stepping behaviour adjusted overall. |
Falling | Reduced the reaction when falling from a height, and shortened the recovery animation for both high falls and landing in deep water. |
Balance adjusted for weapon and shield unique MODs and for EX-MODs. | |
Presentation | Event scenes and lighting adjusted. |
Performance | General optimisation work. |
Free Support Item Set
As a thank-you for the update, a Support Item Set was distributed to every player. It becomes claimable once you have progressed far enough for the main quest known in Japanese as Iori's Request to be playable, and it is collected from the Chest at the inn. Each save file can claim it once.
Item | Quantity |
|---|---|
Flash Talisman | 10 |
Blink Talisman | 10 |
Illumination Talisman | 10 |
Hi Bomb Stone | 10 |
Hi Flame Stone | 10 |
Hi Numbing Mine | 10 |
The talisman and stone names above are translations of the Japanese notes; the English client may label them slightly differently.
Bug Fixes
Player animation could lock up after certain actions.
A dead zone was incorrectly applied to mouse input.
Enemies could freeze or become stuck on some maps.
Several other minor issues.
Ver. 1.0.2
Ver. 1.0.2 is named in the Ver. 1.0.3 notes as the baseline from which demo save-data transfer is supported. A standalone changelog for it has not been published separately, so the only confirmed detail is that compatibility floor.
Announcements Between Patches
Not everything the team publishes is a patch. Two forward commitments are outstanding and neither has shipped as a build.
Date | Announcement | Status |
|---|---|---|
August 7, 2026 | A new difficulty tier above Very Hard, planned within 2026, with a balance pass to accompany it. | Not shipped as of September 16, 2026. No name, no date. |
September 3, 2026 | The post-launch add-on was named Genesis Maidens and detailed: a new storyline and side quests across new areas of Floors 1 and 2, the partner Mito, a curved sword weapon type, and an armor enhancement system. | Set for winter 2026. See Expansion DLC. |
The team has said balance work will continue to ship alongside add-on releases, so the next substantive patch is more likely to arrive with the add-on than ahead of it.
Reading the Notes
Two habits help when a patch lands. First, check the title screen version before assuming a fix has arrived, because console rollouts can trail the PC build by a day or more. Second, treat balance entries as directional rather than precise: the notes name the systems that moved without quantifying them, so the practical effect of a pass on Sword Skills or enemy spawn counts is something players work out in play.
