Background

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz spent 17 years at CD Projekt Red, where he directed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015), one of the most acclaimed RPGs ever made. He also served as Head of Production for Cyberpunk 2077 (2020). He left the studio in May 2021 following an internal investigation into workplace bullying allegations; he was found not guilty.

Founding Rebel Wolves

Tomaszkiewicz founded Rebel Wolves in February 2022 in Warsaw, Poland, where he is both CEO and Game Director. He co-founded the studio with several former CDPR colleagues:

• Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz (Creative Director, Konrad's brother)

• Daniel Sadowski (Design Director)

• Jakub Szamalek (Narrative Director)

• Bartlomiej Gawel (Art Director)

All of these developers previously worked on The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077. The team also includes developers from Thronebreaker and Shadow Warrior 2.

Vision for Dawnwalker

Tomaszkiewicz has described wanting to make something new with his friends, and to expand the rules of RPG games beyond existing conventions. He has cited a desire to avoid repeating mistakes from CDPR's past, particularly around crunch culture and scope management. His public statements indicate a focus on creative autonomy, which is reflected in the studio's funding structure: NetEase holds a minority stake, Bandai Namco handles publishing, and Rebel Wolves retains full creative control and IP ownership.

Game reveal

The Blood of Dawnwalker was revealed on January 13, 2025, during a livestream from Rebel Wolves' studio under the Full Wolf Moon. The reveal included a cinematic trailer (serving as the game's opening cinematic), game pillars and design concepts, and a first glimpse of gameplay. A full gameplay reveal followed at the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2025 and Gamescom in August 2025.

On AI in game development

Tomaszkiewicz has publicly stated he does not believe games made with AI "will have soul." This reflects his emphasis on handcrafted design and personal creative investment, which aligns with the studio's approach to building The Blood of Dawnwalker's narrative sandbox and combat systems through direct design rather than procedural generation.
