Vale Sangora is not a place with clear heroes and villains. Multiple factions exist in the valley, each with their own goals, and Coen can choose to ally with, oppose, or ignore any of them. The game director has stated that you can complete the entire game without ever meeting the human rebellion, or you can make them your primary allies. The choice — and its consequences — are yours.
Led by Brencis, the vampires who control Vale Sangora form the ruling power. They offer protection from the plague in exchange for blood taxes and obedience. Not all vampires are part of Brencis's inner circle — the vampire society has its own internal politics and hierarchies. Some vampires may have their own agendas that conflict with Brencis's plans.
An organized resistance movement fighting against vampire rule. The rebellion operates in secret since open defiance of Brencis's regime is dangerous. The developers have specifically mentioned that players can go through the entire game without encountering this faction, which means they're not forced into the main storyline — they're one option among many.
Not everyone under vampire rule wants to be free. Many humans in Vale Sangora genuinely support Brencis because his cure saved them from the plague. These loyalists view the vampires as protectors or even religious figures. They pay the blood tax willingly and see the rebellion as a threat to the stability that keeps them alive.
Beyond the binary of pro-vampire and anti-vampire, other groups exist with their own self-serving motives. The developers have hinted at factions that don't fit neatly into either camp — groups that might ally with humans on one issue and vampires on another, depending on what benefits them.
The faction system ties directly into the 30-day cycle. Helping one faction takes time — time you could spend doing something else. Allying with the rebellion might give you access to resources and safe houses, but it also draws the attention of Brencis's forces. Working within the vampire system might provide information about where your family is being held, but it means cooperating with the people who imprisoned them.
The game tracks your relationships with different factions, and those relationships affect what options are available to you as the 30 days progress. A faction you ignored early on might refuse to help you when you need them later. A faction you betrayed might actively work against you.
