The Iris Greataxe is a two-handed weapon in Crimson Desert that stands out for its exceptionally high Critical Rate Lv. 3 bonus. While its 18 base attack power is slightly lower than some other greataxes in its tier, the Lv. 3 crit rate significantly boosts the chance of landing critical hits, making it one of the best crit-oriented greataxes available.

The Iris brand appears on both this greataxe and the Iris Longsword, suggesting a family of weapons crafted with precision engineering that favors critical strike potential. Oongka can wield this greataxe to devastating effect, combining his naturally powerful attack animations with frequent critical hits for burst damage that tears through enemy health bars.

How to Obtain

The Iris Greataxe can be crafted at a Blacksmith after learning the recipe from the Two Handed Weapons of the World Vol. 2 crafting manual. Crafting manuals are found during exploration of Pywel or available for purchase from merchants. The weapon can also appear as random world loot.

Abyss Gears

The five Abyss Gear slots on the Iris Greataxe offer an opportunity to build on its already impressive crit rate. With Lv. 3 crit built in, even modest crit chance boosts from Abyss Cores can push the total into territory where critical hits happen on a large portion of swings. Alternatively, players might use some slots for attack power cores to compensate for the slightly lower base damage compared to 19-attack greataxes.

Combat Notes

The Iris Greataxe shares its Lv. 3 Critical Rate bonus with only the Patterned Stone Greataxe among standard greataxes. Both weapons sit at 18 attack power with identical crit tiers, making them functionally equivalent in combat. The choice between them is purely cosmetic and comes down to which one the player finds or crafts first.

Compared to the Tardik Greataxe and Gorthak Greataxe (both 19 attack, Crit Rate Lv. 2), the Iris Greataxe trades 1 point of base attack for a higher crit tier. In extended fights against bosses with large health pools, the higher crit rate may yield more total damage over time, while the 19-attack alternatives perform better in short encounters where raw per-hit damage matters more.

Tips

• The Lv. 3 crit rate makes this the premier crit-build greataxe. Stack additional crit chance from Abyss Cores to turn critical hits into a frequent occurrence rather than a lucky bonus.

• Oongka's charged heavy attack with a greataxe deals massive damage. When that charged attack lands as a critical hit, it can take a substantial chunk out of any boss health bar.

• If you prefer consistency over crit variance, the Tardik Greataxe or Gorthak Greataxe offer 1 more base attack with a still-respectable Lv. 2 crit bonus.
