Fragments of Darkness is the opening quest of the Veiled Witch sub-chapter in Chapter 9: The Sage of the Desert. Strange disturbances continue even after the evil spirit's defeat. Patches of Abyss corruption reappear throughout the Serpent Marsh, and the monks report sightings of a cloaked figure moving among the shadows. Kliff investigates three corruption sites to uncover the source.

Clear Abyss creatures at each site
Collect evidence fragments from each location
Report findings to the Chief Monk
Three corruption sites are marked on the map with purple icons. Each site has a cluster of Abyss creatures guarding an evidence fragment. The sites can be visited in any order. At each site, defeat the enemies and interact with the glowing object to collect the fragment.
The first site is near the entrance to the Serpent Marsh. The second is along the river east of Jijeong Temple. The third is deep in the southern marshlands near a ruined shrine. The third site has the toughest enemies, including shadow beasts that hit harder than the standard Abyss creatures.
After collecting all three fragments, return to the Chief Monk at Jijeong Temple. He pieces together the evidence and identifies the disturbances as the work of a single individual: the Veiled Witch.
Visit the sites in map order (north to south) for the smoothest difficulty progression.
The shadow beasts at the third site can be stunned with Force Palm. Use this to prevent their charging attacks.
Collect any gathering nodes along the way. The Serpent Marsh has unique herbs needed for advanced crafting recipes.
