Cloister of Enlightenment is the second quest in Chapter 9: The Sage of the Desert in Crimson Desert. Kliff follows the mysterious voice deeper into the Serpent Marsh, eventually discovering an ancient monastery hidden among the towering rock formations and dense vegetation. The monks living here practice a unique martial discipline that combines physical combat with spiritual energy.
The Cloister of Enlightenment is the opening quest of the Enlightenment sub-chapter in Chapter 9: The Sage of the Desert. Kliff returns to the Cloister of Enlightenment for a final audience with the monks. The atmosphere has changed completely; where the monastery once felt tense and guarded, it now radiates calm. The monks line the path and bow as Kliff passes, acknowledging his achievements in restoring the pensive statues and defeating the Black Witch.

The path through the Serpent Marsh is winding and filled with elevated terrain. Use your grappling hook and Axiom Force to cross gaps and reach higher ledges. Watch for environmental hazards, including poisonous swamp gas that deals damage over time if you stand in it too long.
The monastery is carved into the rock itself, with stone steps leading up to an ornate gateway guarded by two monks. They are initially suspicious of an outsider, but recognize something within Kliff and allow him to enter.
A cutscene introduces the Chief Monk, who explains that the Cloister of Enlightenment is a place where warriors come to confront their inner darkness and emerge stronger. He leads Kliff through the monastery's interior. This shows the training grounds, meditation halls, and the Path of Enlightenment. He warns that many who attempt the trials within never return.
This is a purely narrative quest with no combat. Fast travel to the Cloister if you have the waypoint unlocked. Walk the main path where monks bow on either side. In the main hall, the Chief Monk delivers a speech acknowledging Kliff's accomplishments and presents an invitation to meet the Sage of the Desert, a legendary figure who dwells deeper in the Serpent Marsh.
A cutscene plays showing the Cloister in its restored state. After the dialogue, the next quest begins automatically.
There is an Abyss Nexus fast travel point near the monastery entrance. Make sure to activate it.
Speak with individual monks to learn more about the history of the monastery and the trials that await.
The swamp gas hazards can be avoided by staying on the elevated rock paths.
Save your progress before starting this quest, especially if you are playing on a higher difficulty setting.
Endgame quests feature some of the toughest enemies in the game. Consider revisiting earlier areas to complete any missed side content that awards powerful gear or skill upgrades.

Cloister of Enlightenment (current quest)
This quest shares a similar name with the Cloister of Enlightenment location. The quest is the story event, while the location is the physical place.
No items or equipment are rewarded. The value of this quest is the story progression and the emotional payoff of being acknowledged by the monks.
Once you have completed the first part of Chapter 9: The Calling, the Cloister of Enlightenment plateau becomes accessible as a free-roam destination. The site hosts 40 or more chests along a tight loop and has become one of the most material-heavy chest-reset farms in the live build. There are no tier-4 chests on this route, so it is not a abyss gear farm; what it does provide is a high-volume stream of crafting materials, food items, and pouches per lap. A full sweep is two to three minutes once you know the chest positions.
Requirement | Notes |
|---|---|
Chapter 9 progression | You must have completed the first part of Chapter 9: The Calling, which sends you into the Cloister for the first time. |
Fast travel node | Trigger the Cloister fast travel point on your first visit. This becomes both your access point and your reset node. |
Movement toolkit | No specific skill gate. Boost jumps and the glide kit shorten the sweep noticeably but are not required. |
Trigger the Cloister fast travel point. This is the anchor for every loop you run.
Walk the route slowly on your first pass so you can mark each chest position on your personal map. The chest density makes it easy to miss several stacked alcoves on a fast first lap.
Sweep all chests. Several alcoves stack five to seven chests inside a single tight space.
Open the map and fast travel back to the Cloister node. The chests reset and you can run the lap again.
Repeat. A clean lap is two to three minutes. Materials, food, and pouches accumulate fast.
Crafting materials in bulk: the dominant drop and the reason most players run this farm.
Food items: useful for cooking and stamina recovery during longer farming sessions on other spots.
Pouches: mixed value, sometimes containing accessories or coin pouches.
No tier-4 chests: if you are specifically chasing abyss gear, run the Ashen Roof loop or the 5-Chest Tier-4 Camp instead. See the dedicated farming guides for details.
The Cloister sweep is one entry in a wider family of fast-travel reset routes. For the full set, including the chest spots in the northern Crimson Desert region and the ore reset spots, see Best Farming Locations and the Abyss Gear Farming Guide.
This farm route uses the same fast-travel reset behaviour the developer is actively tuning across the live build. The chest count and exact alcove positions could change with future patches. The loop pattern has held across recent updates, but treat the 40+ chest figure as patch-current rather than permanent.
