Overview
The Church of Calphade is the Solumen Order's place of worship in the Calphade area of northern Hernand. It is the city's only place of worship, though rumors suggest that priests are reluctant to be assigned here due to the frequent wars that plague the region. The church features a prominent bell tower that plays a role in the Toll of Pywel questline and contains a hidden treasure chest accessible through its upper windows.
Location
The church is situated in the northern part of the Hernand region, within the Calphadean Territory. It lies to the west of Calphade Castle in the settlement area sometimes referred to as Thalwynd Village. The surrounding landscape features lush greenery visible when looking eastward from the bell tower.
Bell Tower
The Church of Calphade contains one of the eight hidden bells for the Toll of Pywel questline, which is part of the Priorin Forest Guardians faction activities. Ringing the bell partially reveals the map for the northern Hernand region and marks nearby points of interest.
How to Reach the Bell
There are no stairs leading to the top of the bell tower. Players must use the Force Palm ability to climb upward. Force Palm can be used in midair up to three times in a row (activated with R3) to catapult yourself to great heights, making it the primary method for scaling the church tower. Once at the top, interact with the bell to ring it and trigger a cutscene with a Shai Resident NPC.
Chapter 6 Restriction
This bell becomes temporarily unavailable during Chapter 6 of the main story. During that chapter, the Calphade area becomes a hostile zone, and the Shai Resident NPC will not spawn. Attempting to ring the bell during Chapter 6 will not count toward the Toll of Pywel quest. Players can ring it at any point before or after Chapter 6 without issue.
Shield of Conviction
A hidden treasure chest inside the church tower contains the Shield of Conviction, a defensive item with solid early-to-mid game value. To reach the chest, players must climb the exterior of the tower and enter through a high window rather than accessing it at ground level.

Tips
Visit the church before Chapter 6 or after completing it to avoid the hostile zone restriction.
Bring Force Palm unlocked before attempting to reach the bell tower, as there is no other way to climb to the top.
The Shield of Conviction is accessible separately from the bell. Even if you ring the bell first, you can return later to loot the treasure chest.
From the top of the bell tower, you can observe lush greenery facing east, making it a scenic vantage point for surveying the region.
