The Cat is the most common feline breed in Crimson Desert, found throughout settlements across Pywel. These domestic cats come in a wide variety of coat colors and patterns, including yellow, white, black, bicolor, and tricolor variants. Cats are independent but can be affectionate companions once tamed, often curling up near their owners during rest.

Found in all regions except the Crimson Desert. Common in settlements, market areas, and near residential buildings.
To tame the Cat, you first need to pick it up by holding the carry button. Once you are carrying the cat, you can pet it. Each petting action grants +5 Trust, and you can pet up to five times per in-game day for a maximum of +25 Trust from petting alone. Note that cats cannot pass through doors while you are carrying them.
You can also feed the Cat up to three times per in-game day. Drop fish, bird meat, or milk from your inventory near the cat to feed it. Cats refuse regular red meat. Cats prefer Squid as their favorite food. Like all cat breeds, you must hold the carry button to pick the cat up first, then pet while carrying. Cats take at least two in-game days to tame.
Once the Cat reaches 100 Trust, hold the interaction button to register it as your companion. Cats generally take at least two to three in-game days to tame due to their lower trust gain per feeding compared to dogs.
The Cat's favorite food is Squid, which grants the maximum +35 Trust per feeding. Other accepted foods grant +10 Trust per feeding.
Cats accept fish, bird meat, eggs, and dairy products, but refuse regular red meat. Top food items for cats include Golden Tench, Coelacanth, Golden Carp, and Clockwork Fish (+100 pts each for consumable food value). Daily feeding is limited to three times per in-game day, with the day resetting at midnight in-game time.
Like all pets in Crimson Desert, the Cat automatically runs around the battlefield after combat and loots items from enemy corpses. Pets do not fight, attack enemies, or take damage. They function exclusively as automatic loot collectors.
Pets disappear when you mount your horse and reappear when you dismount. Only one pet can be active at a time, with remaining registered pets stored in your inventory's Pets tab.
The Cat can wear Pet Equipment, including one headpiece and one body outfit at a time. Pet armor is purely cosmetic and does not provide combat stats. Pet cosmetics can be purchased from Milou's Shop in Pororin Village or the Demeniss Pet Tailor in the southeast corner of Demeniss.
The Cat has 6 different appearance variants with different coat colors and patterns. All variants share the same favorite food, taming requirements, and abilities. The variant you encounter depends on the specific spawn location and sometimes the time of day.
Remember to pick up the cat first before attempting to pet it. Simply approaching and pressing the pet button will not work.
Cats cannot pass through doors while being carried. Plan your petting location accordingly.
Cats take at least two in-game days to tame. Be patient and visit consistently.
You can register up to 30 pets total. Completing the full roster unlocks the Natural Collector trophy.
Feeding a cat its preferred food is the quickest way to push trust to 100. Grilled and salt-roasted foods give the highest trust gain per feed for typical cat tamings, while a single legendary fish can skip the multi-day feeding cycle entirely. Refer to the full Pet Taming Guide for the shared systems that govern every companion.
Food | Notes | Trust per Feed |
|---|---|---|
A top preferred food for cats. Cook any fish at a campfire with salt to produce the roasted variant. | Up to +35 | |
A second preferred option that works well when fish are scarce. Cats take it readily in place of salt-roasted fish. | Up to +35 | |
Grilled Foods | Grilled bird meat and other grilled items are accepted at the high trust tier alongside the salt-roasted pair. | Up to +35 |
Placing any legendary fish on the ground beside a cat fully tames the cat in a single interaction. Trust jumps straight to 100 the moment the cat reaches the fish, which bypasses both the three-feed daily cap and the standard two-to-three in-game day taming cycle described in the Taming section above.
The most accessible legendary fish is the Golden Carp. It swims in the lake next to Pailune and can be grabbed by hand straight from the water, so no fishing rod or fishing skill is required. Swim out to it, interact to pick it up, then drop it next to any wild cat for an instant tame. This method is especially useful for locking in rare cat variants on the first encounter.
The locations below are confirmed cat spawn hubs. Each settlement mixes several coat patterns, and fast traveling away and back can reroll the active spawn set when the cat you are hunting is not present.
Location | What Spawns | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Mixed cat and dog spawns, including the famous Fat Cat variant. | Sits near Pailune, so it pairs well with a Golden Carp run at the nearby lake for instant tames. | |
Pororin Village | Diverse cat varieties across the village streets, with a fixed Kitten spawn near the pots at the back of the village. | The strongest all-round cat farming area for collectors working through Pororin Cat, Tabby Cat, White Cat, and Black Cat collections. |
Other rare cat concentrations likely exist in regions covered by the comprehensive pet guide but have not been confirmed against verified locations in this wiki; they are intentionally left out here rather than listed with uncertain names.
Equipping the Companionship III abyss core adds +3 trust to every interaction, which stacks with preferred-food feeds and petting to shave at least one in-game day off most cat tames. For the broader framework on how trust scales across all companions and pets, see the Companion Affection Guide.
