Enhanced with detailed stats, variant comparison table, weapon systems, and crafting info from web research
The A.T.A.G. (All-Terrain Armored Gear) is the fully upgraded base model of the mechanized combat mount in Crimson Desert. Built by the Ironflame Orcs, these bipedal war machines are powered by Abyss energy cells and serve as walking tanks equipped with heavy weaponry. The A.T.A.G. first becomes available during Chapter 10: Counterattack, when Kliff must defend Gorthak against a mechanized creature assault.
The base A.T.A.G. is the strongest standard variant, with 2,500 Health, 360 Stamina, 35 Attack, and 100 Evade. It seats one pilot and comes equipped with multiple weapon systems including a rapid-fire machine gun, a wide-area blast cannon, and an EMP discharge. After completing Chapter 10, players can craft their own A.T.A.G. for use in the open world.

The A.T.A.G. becomes available during the Secret Weapon portion of Chapter 10: Counterattack, approximately 50 to 60 hours into the main story. The unlock sequence follows these steps:
Progress through the main story until Chapter 10 begins.
Complete the quest Master of the Ironworks, which introduces the mech technology built by the Ironflame Orcs.
Complete the quest Hidden Ace, where Kliff learns to operate the A.T.A.G. for the first time.
Defend Gorthak against the mechanized creature assault in the Clockwork Insect Clash battle sequence.
During the Chapter 10 story missions, the A.T.A.G. is provided automatically for the defense of Gorthak. You do not need to craft it for these scripted encounters.
After completing Chapter 10 and helping the Ironflame Orcs, you gain access to free-roam A.T.A.G. crafting. In Chapter 11, the quest New Designs tasks you with speaking to Marek at the Zargan Tankworks in Gorthak Territory. Completing this quest rewards the Small Kuku A.T.A.G. Design blueprint.

Warning: Do not use a Kuku Pot that has items stored inside it. The Kuku Pot is consumed entirely during the crafting process, and any items stored inside will be permanently lost. Always use an empty pot.
The A.T.A.G. can be outfitted with various weapon systems unlocked through Research Institutes in the Delesyia region. Different hangars around Gorthak contain mechs with different weapon loadouts. The available weapon systems are:
Weapon | Type | Research Institute |
|---|---|---|
Rapid-fire ranged | ||
Wide-area blast | ||
Focused beam | ||
Heavy melee | ||
Rocket fist melee | ||
Close-range / repair | ||
Area-of-effect fire |
The A.T.A.G. can be equipped with armor plating, boots, and thrusterpacks that improve its defensive and mobility capabilities. These are unlocked through research projects at various institutes:
Equipment | Effect | Research Institute |
|---|---|---|
Increased armor defense | Urdavah Research (Mk II/III) | |
Enhanced ground movement | ||
Jetpack mobility / flight bursts |
The A.T.A.G. runs on a finite fuel supply displayed as a purple energy bar. When this bar is depleted, the mech shuts down and cannot be used until repaired. There are two ways to restore a depleted A.T.A.G.:
A.T.A.G. Factories: Visit any A.T.A.G. factory hangar located around Gorthak in the southeastern area of the map. These hangars are recognizable by large metal containers with green lights on the front door. Pull the lever to deploy a fresh mech.
A.T.A.G. Welder: Once unlocked through research at Dewhaven Keep, the Welder attachment allows field repairs without returning to a factory.
Multiple A.T.A.G. variants exist in the game, each found in different hangars across Gorthak or encountered during story missions. The Ironflame variants (Mk.I through Mk.VII) share identical stats and differ primarily in their equipped weapon loadouts. The base A.T.A.G. has significantly higher Health than all other variants:
Variant | Health | Stamina | Attack | Evade |
|---|---|---|---|---|
A.T.A.G. | 2,500 | 360 | 35 | 100 |
1,000 | 330 | 30 | 100 | |
1,000 | 330 | 30 | 100 | |
1,000 | 330 | 30 | 100 | |
1,000 | 330 | 30 | 100 | |
1,000 | 330 | 30 | 100 | |
500 | 300 | 25 | 100 |
The A.T.A.G. is slower than horses despite having access to jetpack thrusterpacks and speed boost abilities. It is best suited for combat missions rather than long-distance travel.
Different hangar locations around Gorthak contain slightly different A.T.A.G. configurations equipped with various weapon loadouts including flamethrowers, miniguns, rocket launchers, anti-air missiles, and jetpacks.
You can check which Mk version you have by looking at the status indicator before entering the mech.
