Shidou
August 26, 2026 at 09:33 AM
Added a preparation table for the duo fight, and a rematch table covering what each of the three encounters adds
Shidou is the purification soldier assigned to watch what Emma does, and the closest thing the game has to a recurring human antagonist. He is a sealer like Emma, he wants the power she carries as the Vessel for himself, and he fights bonded to his own Nue Malefact. He is voiced in Japanese by Satoshi Mikami. English guides sometimes list him under the descriptor Male Purifier.
Detail | Value |
|---|---|
Japanese name | シドウ |
Role | Purification soldier and rival sealer |
Companion | |
First revealed | Launch day, 4 August 2026 |
Japanese voice | Satoshi Mikami |
Achievement | Shidou & Nue |
Shidou is behind the attack that opens the game. The bonded Nue Malefact that hits Emma's settlement in Chapter 1 is his, sent to take her power before she can accept the task she has been given, and the fight that follows is what pushes Emma and Koo onto the walking vessel in the first place. He then shadows the route west, turning up at three points along it to try again.
His pairing with a bonded beast mirrors Emma and Koo directly. Both of them fight as a human and a companion working in tandem, which is what makes him the story's clearest counterweight rather than just another obstacle.
Chapter | Level | Region | Location | Rewards |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Chapter 3 | 20 | Mountainous Region | The Great Wall Terraces | Nushi Skill: Chimeric Flow |
Chapter 6 | 35 | Mountainous Region | Fuji Frontier Zone | None |
Chapter 11 | 48 | Mount Hiei Zone | Bloom Art: Erica: Strangle, Blade Art: Nue |
Both halves of the fight are weak to Poison, which makes the Hunter's Sword and poison ammunition the standard preparation.
The first encounter is the one worth preparing for, because it arrives at the end of a long zone and both halves of the pair share the same weakness. Everything below is available before the arena.
Preparation | Why It Helps |
|---|---|
Poison arrows and bolts | Shidou and the beast both take extra damage from Poison, so the poison ammunition types are worth more here than the elemental ones. |
Hunter's Sword | The poison blade among the katanas, and the standard melee pick for this fight because it presses the same weakness on both targets. |
Floral Wraps | Armor sitting in a strongbox by the Old Sagami Colony: Approach campsite in The Great Wall Terraces, a short walk from the first arena. Defense 31 with six spirit stone slots. |
Dokuzeri: Fang | The poison bite from Koo, which both targets are weak to. Running it and his Seeds ability with the Perennial modifier also keeps Emma topped up across a long fight. |
Higanbana: Roots | Binds. Used on Shidou it strips his counter for a few seconds, and used on the beast it can interrupt the first slash sequence it telegraphs. |
Attack | How It Works | Response |
|---|---|---|
Two Slashes | Sheathes briefly, then a double slash. | Parry both, and stay ready in case he opens the longer chain instead. |
Four Slash Combo | Sheathes, then four consecutive slashes. | Parry the chain. With his stagger meter high, he breaks before the combo finishes. |
Blight Lunge | Launches himself on a pillar of blight and strikes downward from range. | He cannot be hit mid-launch and the strike is unparryable. Dodge it. |
Blight Combo | Two long-range blight swings. | Both can be parried. |
Parry | He parries Emma's attacks when left an opening. | Bind or shock him with Koo first, which removes the counter. |
Health Absorb | Chapter 6 only. Retreats and attaches a blight branch to Nue Malefact to drain its health. | Attack him during the drain. It staggers both bosses and cuts the heal short. |
The pair is not simply re-levelled between encounters. Each meeting adds moves, and most of the additions land on the beast rather than on Shidou.
Fight | What Is New |
|---|---|
Chapter 3, level 20 | The baseline pair. Shidou opens with his slash chains and the blight lunge, and the beast fights much as it did in the opening chapter. |
Chapter 6, level 35 | Shidou gains Health Absorb, retreating to drain the Nue Malefact for health. The beast's usual combo becomes charged, with the second strike dropping a ring of lightning. |
Chapter 11, level 48 | The beast adds Seed Bomb, scattering seeds across the arena that sprout roots where they land, and a three-hit Rushdown that cannot be parried. No new Shidou attack is recorded for this fight. |
Take the beast out first and deal with Shidou second. He is the more readable of the two, most of his attacks can be parried, and Koo's Kiku: Bloom Strike knocks him to the ground for a free damage window that pairs well with Entanglement Overdrive. Keep ranged weapons for Nue Malefact, and never let the two of them get on opposite sides of Emma.
Nue Malefact covers the beast that fights with him. Emma explains the Vessel he is trying to take, and Voice Cast lists the rest of the credited performers.
