World and Regions

Removed a marker name that was an unpublished English translation and replaced it with an explicit note that no English name exists yet.
AION 2 takes place across the world of Atreia, a planet that fractured into two hemispheres in the IP's foundational catastrophe. The Elyos hemisphere of Elysea sits above; the Asmodian hemisphere of Asmodae sits below; and the void of Reshanta, also called the Abyss, occupies the gap between them. NCsoft has stated that the AION 2 world is approximately thirty-six times larger than the original game's, with seamless terrain that covers a corresponding multiple of the original world's surface area.
Layer | Description |
|---|---|
Elysea (upper hemisphere) | Elyos faction territory; bright, ordered regions with classical architecture; PvE content for the Elyos plus shared open-world content |
Asmodae (lower hemisphere) | Asmodian faction territory; harsher climates and gothic motifs; PvE content for the Asmodian plus shared open-world content |
Reshanta / Abyss | Contested middle layer of floating islands and aerial battlefields; the home of open-world faction PvP |
Travel between regions does not require loading screens for most of the world. The seamlessness is one of the design pillars announced for AION 2, and Unreal Engine 5's streaming systems are used to keep the transitions invisible during normal play. Loading still appears when entering instanced dungeons or specific PvP arenas.

Regions are designed with verticality as the primary axis. Cliffs, floating islands, sky-temples, and multi-tier cities reward players who can fly. The same map at ground level often hides paths that only become visible from the air. This design extends into PvE encounters, where many ground-level routes are gated behind aerial puzzles or vertical climbs.

The Abyss layer is the heart of open-world PvP. Reshanta is split into multiple sub-maps with different flight rules. Lower Reshanta supports full powered flight, while the Mid-Layer added during Season 3 on the KR and TW servers restricts players to gliding, walking, or running. Each sub-map has its own contested objectives and time-windowed events. See PvP and the Abyss for the PvP rules and reward structures.
Reshanta Layer | Flight | Role |
|---|---|---|
Lower Reshanta | Full powered flight | Open-world aerial faction PvP; the canonical 3D battlefield of the IP |
Mid-Layer | Gliding, walking, or running only | Added in Season 3 on the KR and TW build; emphasizes ground positioning and chokepoint control |

AION 2's region names and map layout are not a one-to-one carry-over from the original game. Some IP-anchor names appear in the new world (Atreia, Elysea, Asmodae, Reshanta, the Abyss), but specific zones from the first game should not be assumed to exist in AION 2 unless verified in the live build.
The July 1, 2026 Chapter 1: Land of Sand and Frost update added two new territories on the Korean and Taiwanese build: Eltnen, an Elyos territory, and Morheim, an Asmodian territory, each with new stories and quests. NCsoft has not stated whether they ship in the September 2026 global build at launch or arrive on the global timeline later, so treat them as current Korean and Taiwanese build content for now.
The Transparent Map is a navigation overlay added to the Korean and Taiwanese build on July 22, 2026. It draws the current area's terrain outline and its walkable routes semi-transparently over the game screen, centred on your position. The point of difference from the minimap is that it does not box off a corner of the screen: you can read the surrounding paths and landmarks while still seeing the world through it.
Markers on the overlay cover the things players actually navigate toward:
Quest objectives
NPCs, split by function: shops, crafting stations and warehouses
Travel points, including Kibelisks, spacetime rifts and flight circles
Dungeon entrances
Field bosses
A further collectible world-objective marker also appears on the overlay. The Korean and Taiwanese build names it, but no English rendering has been published, so it is left unnamed here rather than given a guessed translation.
Hovering a marker brings up a short tooltip with the target's name, its altitude, and how far away it is, which matters in a game where the route to something is often vertical. Party and force members show their positions on the overlay as well.
The overlay is available in major territories and in instanced content including Sealed Dungeons, quest dungeons and party dungeons. The route layer and the map layer have separate opacity sliders, so players who want the paths without the terrain wash can dial one down independently of the other.
