Succession Crafting
October 9, 2026 at 12:20 AM
Added a Transfer Stones table with fragment costs for weapon, armor and accessory stones, fragment sources and advice on saving Heroic fragments
Succession Crafting is the Season 3 crafting system in AION 2, added in the April 8, 2026 update. It addresses a long-standing pain point in MMO crafting: when you create or upgrade a new piece of gear, you do not have to re-grind the enhancement, breakthrough, and Soul Inscription state from scratch. The system carries that state forward from a sacrificial source piece to the new target piece, which preserves the work you have already put into your loadout while letting you swap up to a new tier.
The Korean name is 계승 제작. The global client's English data calls it Transfer Crafting, and community coverage has also used Succession Crafting and Inheritance Crafting. On May 13, 2026 the Korean service gave it a separate Transfer Crafting tab in the crafting window that shows only Transfer Crafting recipes, and added recipes turning Eungryong and Giryong Dragon Lord gear into their Splendent versions. Gear-to-gear transfer without crafting, called succession (계승) in Korean, is part of the same family and is covered below.
NCsoft's official Korean guidebook and the update notes describe three related mechanisms. Succession and Advanced Succession sit in the Integrated Enhancement window, while Transfer Crafting runs through the crafting window (see Crafting).
System | What it does | Cost and odds (Korean service) |
|---|---|---|
Succession (계승) | Moves enhancement (including breakthrough) and Soul Inscription from one item to another item for the same slot; weapons only within the same class weapon type. The source item is consumed. | Transfer Stones from Transfer Stone fragments; no Kina since February 11, 2026; 100% success and no limit since July 1, 2026 |
Advanced Succession (상급 계승) | The same carry-over from a Unique item to a Hero item: Unique +1 to +15 stay +1 to +15, and Unique breakthrough 1 to 5 become Hero +16 to +20. | 20,000,000 Kina for the first, 30,000,000 for the second and 50,000,000 for the third and later attempts; 100% success; no limit since July 1, 2026 |
Transfer Crafting (계승 제작) | A crafting recipe marked with the Transfer Crafting icon takes an existing item as a material and gives the new item its enhancement, breakthrough and Soul Inscription. | The recipe's materials; the result is bound to the crafting character (May 20, 2026) |
NCsoft's probability page (October 7, 2026) lists a 100% success chance for both ordinary and advanced succession at every count. In Transfer Crafting the guidebook says equipped manastones, Theostones and Soul Binding are reset and the Soul Inscription rate changes, and Soul Binding effects are never inherited by any of the three (February 11, 2026).
Ordinary succession consumes Transfer Stones of the item's grade, made in Material Conversion from fragments. The recipes have been the same since January 21, 2026 on the Korean service, for both Unique and Heroic stones (the English names are the global client's):
Stone | Made from |
|---|---|
Transfer Stone: Weapon | 20 Transfer Stone Fragments of the same grade |
Transfer Stone: Armor | 15 Transfer Stone Fragments of the same grade |
Transfer Stone: Accessory | 10 Transfer Stone Fragments of the same grade |
Fragments come from converting gear. A Unique item gives 1 to 5 Transfer Stone Fragments (Unique) depending on its item level, from 1 at item level 50 to 59 up to 5 at item level 90 to 100, and any Hero-grade item gives 5 Transfer Stone Fragments (Heroic). Quest gear has been accepted since January 28, 2026 and Draconic gear made with Cores since March 11, 2026. Outside conversion, the Expedition exchange shop has sold Transfer Stone Fragment (Heroic) since September 23, 2026, at 5,000 Tokens of Overcoming and up to 5 per character per week. Stones lost to failed transfers before same-grade succession became 100 percent successful were refunded as fragments on July 8, 2026. The January 21, 2026 recipe list has no recipe that turns Unique Transfer Stones into Heroic ones.
Because Heroic fragments mostly come from breaking down Hero-grade gear, Heroic Transfer Stones are the scarce ones. Players advise saving Heroic fragments instead of spending them on the first Hero pieces you find, doing as much rolling and transferring as possible on Unique gear where the materials are cheap, and moving to Hero gear once the piece you want to keep is ready.
The crafting window reflects the succession state of any source piece selected for transfer. Players can preview the carried-over data before committing the craft; the preview includes the resulting enhancement stage, the breakthrough stage on the target's tier, and the Soul Inscription options. This visibility prevents accidentally consuming a heavily-invested piece on a craft that does not actually preserve the layer the player cares about.
Layer | Carries over? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Enhancement stage | Yes | In Advanced Succession, Unique +1 to +15 becomes the same level on the Hero piece |
Breakthrough stage | Yes | In Advanced Succession, Unique breakthrough tiers 1 to 5 become Hero enhancement levels +16 to +20 (in-game help added June 10, 2026) |
Soul Inscription options | Yes | Slot-count mismatches are resolved at random, and values are clamped to the target item's range |
Soul Binding option | No | Soul Binding effects are not inherited (February 11, 2026) |
Failure compensation | Yes | Listed in the January 21, 2026 succession rules; the April 8, 2026 Advanced Succession notes list only enhancement, breakthrough and Soul Inscription |
Potential enhancement stage | No | Not inherited (March 4, 2026) |
Manastones, Theostones | No | Reset by Transfer Crafting, per the guidebook |
Sync (조율) attempt count | Reset | The target item's Soul Inscription sync count resets on a successful succession |
Transfer Crafting recipes carry a Transfer Crafting icon (since April 8, 2026) and, since May 13, 2026, have their own tab. In the materials list, the equipment slot's Select Transfer Gear button picks the source item, and clicking its icon shows the enhancement, breakthrough and Soul Inscription it will pass on. Recipes without the icon are ordinary crafts that make a fresh item.
The August 12, 2026 update made the odds easier to read before you commit. The craft-probability panel now also shows the combo probability for the gap between your proficiency level and the recipe's, and a toggle button sits to the right of the base probability to switch between the two figures. Nothing about the underlying success rates changed; the numbers that were already driving your crafts are simply visible now.
On the Korean and Taiwanese service, succession existed before Season 3 as a standalone transfer. The January 21, 2026 update let players move an item's enhancement level (including breakthrough), its Soul Inscription options and its failure-compensation chance onto another item by spending a Transfer Stone. The source item is consumed on success; on failure it stays and only the materials are lost. The rules at the time:

Only items of the same grade and the same slot qualify, and weapons only within the same class's weapon type, so a Longsword cannot pass to a Greatsword.
Items registered to an equipment preset cannot be used as the source.
Each season allowed a fixed number of successful transfers (six, raised to 20 on March 25, 2026), the success chance changed with that count, and the count reset the next season.
A Unique weapon Transfer Stone took 20 Unique Transfer Stone Fragments and an armor stone took 15; fragments were made by converting Unique gear, with higher item-level pieces yielding more.
Season 3 (April 8, 2026) added Transfer Crafting, which applies the same carry-over when crafting from a marked recipe, and Advanced Succession, which used its own success count and chance and reset its count each season. On February 11, 2026 the Kina cost of every transfer had already been cut to zero. Chapter 1 (July 1, 2026) removed the seasonal limit and made same-grade succession 100 percent successful, removed the Advanced Succession count limit and fixed its maximum cost at 50,000,000 Kina, and refunded materials lost to earlier failed transfers on July 8, 2026.
Plan ahead at the breakthrough wall. The biggest single use case is stepping up to the next tier without redoing your breakthrough chain, so save your most-invested piece as the source rather than dismantling it for materials.
Use standard succession for sidegrades. It moves enhancement, breakthrough and Soul Inscription between pieces of the same grade and slot, so you can change items without losing enhancement progress.
Time Advanced Succession for the Unique-to-Hero step. Unique breakthrough tiers become Hero enhancement levels +16 to +20, so a fully broken-through Unique piece lands at Hero +20.
Bind last. A Soul Binding option does not transfer, so spend Philosopher's Stones on the final piece rather than on the source.
The rules that limit which item can feed which, on the Korean service:
Same slot only, and weapons only within the same class weapon type: a Longsword cannot pass to a Greatsword (guidebook). Succession from a Unique item to a Hero item runs as Advanced Succession.
Gear registered to an equipment preset cannot be the source (January 21, 2026). Gear in the character warehouse can (January 28, 2026).
Transfer Crafting only accepts gear bound to the crafting character as the source (June 10, 2026), and since September 9, 2026 the source must meet the recipe's required enhancement level.
Since January 28, 2026 quest gear can be turned into Transfer Stone fragments through Material Conversion. The Awakening Bracelet and soul weapons became usable as sources on February 4, 2026; because the bracelet's Soul Inscription is fixed, only its enhancement and breakthrough transfer.
If the source's Soul Inscription has more slots than the target's, some stats are dropped at random; if fewer, all transfer into random slots and the target keeps its other stats. Values are clamped to the target's range, and an inscription identical to the target's Soul Binding effect is skipped.
Materials, Kina costs, and recipe access continue to gate the craft itself. Succession does not reduce the resource cost of the craft; it preserves the upgrade state on top of the base craft cost. See Gear and Progression for how crafted gear fits the broader equipment curve.
A June 10 live-build patch added a further restriction: Succession Crafting now only accepts equipment bound to the crafting character as the source piece. Tradeable equipment can no longer be fed into the craft to carry its upgrade state forward, which closes a route some players had used to buy a high-state source on the market and transfer it onto a new piece. Plan the system around gear your character has already bound rather than around marketplace purchases.
A June 17, 2026 patch added a guaranteed succession path for one accessory line on the Korean and Taiwanese build: a Corroded Afterimage Bracelet could be carried forward using a Hero-grade accessory Transfer Stone and a Ludra's Bracelet as the source, alongside a material conversion recipe that builds the same bracelet from a Gear Change Voucher and Kina. The Transfer Crafting recipe was removed on July 1, 2026.
Some of the strongest current gear can only be produced through Succession Crafting rather than dropped. The late-May live-build patch added the Genesis and Nemesis Dragon Lord weapons and guards as craft-only items, each rolling with six base Soul Inscription options when crafted. Because these sets cannot be obtained any other way, the source piece you feed into the craft (and the enhancement, breakthrough, and Soul Inscription state it carries) matters even more than usual. The companion material Philosopher's Stone: Power was added alongside them to enable Soul Binding on the new gear. Treat the set names and their exact stats as current live-build values until the global English client confirms them.
