PK and Duels

PK and duels are the two kinds of player fight that happen outside the queued and scheduled modes. The official guidebook uses PK for any fight against a player of the other faction, and duels for friendly matches between players of the same faction. Everything on this page describes the Korean and Taiwanese service unless it says otherwise. As of October 7, 2026, NCsoft has not published PK or duel rules for the global servers; its global launch notices say only that each server houses one faction and that the two sides meet in shared PvP spaces such as the Abyss and the Spacetime Rifts.
Apart from some areas, most fields in the game allow attacks on players of the other faction. Because Elyos and Asmodians live on separate servers, open-world PK happens where the two sides are brought together: the Abyss, which is always a PvP zone, and the other faction's territory reached through a Spacetime Rift. Killing a player of the other faction pays Abyss Points according to the victim's Abyss rank. Since March 25, 2026 Abyss matching on the Korean service can also pair servers of the same faction as enemies, so an opponent in the Abyss is not always from the other faction; see PvP and the Abyss.
The guidebook page, last updated January 14, 2026, says that dying to an enemy player costs Abyss Points. The patch notes changed that on February 11, 2026: since then a PvP death costs no Abyss Points and lowers Abyss ranking points instead, and the ranking point loss was reduced sharply on February 25, 2026.
Every character starts in PvE mode. A character in PvE mode cannot attack players of the other faction and cannot be attacked by them. To fight, switch to PvP mode with the PvE button to the right of the mount icon at the bottom centre of the screen; players of the other faction are then treated as hostile and can be targeted according to your settings. The mode setting was added on December 3, 2025.

Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
Default | PvE mode |
Level | The mode can be changed from level 45 |
Cooldown | Each change starts a 70-minute wait before the next one (described as one hour and ten minutes when the setting was added) |
Who you can fight | A character in PvP mode can fight enemies who are also in PvP mode, but still cannot attack enemies who are in PvE mode |
Enemy territory | The setting cannot be changed while in the other faction's territory |
Display | Enemies set to PvP are shown in red |
Forced PvP | Attacking a player of the other faction, an enemy NPC or a Kisk switches you to PvP mode for ten minutes. When this rule was added for Spacetime Rifts on December 24, 2025, the patch note said the 70-minute cooldown does not apply to it. |
Party and force | If a party or force member within a certain range turns PvP mode on, every party and force member in that range is switched to PvP mode for ten minutes (since January 14, 2026) |
The Abyss | Always PvP, regardless of the setting |
Uses its own S-PvP state: participants can only fight each other, not monsters, NPCs or players outside the event |
Death has no experience or item penalty in AION 2. A character can revive on the spot with a Resurrection Spiritstone, revive for free at the nearest Kibelisk, revive at a registered Kisk if it stands on the same server, or return to the last resurrection point; if no choice is made within 15 minutes, the basic resurrection happens automatically. One exception matters for PvP: a character killed by another player cannot use a Resurrection Spiritstone to revive on the spot.
In the Abyss, players who die near a boss still collect its reward by contribution as long as they are within the 100 m reward range, so a death in a boss fight does not cost the boss reward.
Several rules apply to every player-versus-player hit on the Korean service, wherever it happens:
Critical hits in PvP deal 1.25 times damage and Double Chance hits 1.5 times, down from 1.5 and 2 times on January 14, 2026.
The PvP damage values tied to the item level gap between attacker and target were lowered on January 14, 2026: the base value from 100% to 80% and the minimum from 40% to 35%.
Since April 29, 2026 there is no cap on how much PvP damage amplification or PvP damage resistance a character can stack, and the damage left after those two stats are applied never drops below 20%.
The July 8, 2026 patch note says that PvP damage for all classes is reduced by 30%. It is a separate line in the note's common class changes, listed after the Defiance skill changes, and applies to every class.
Healing received in the Abyss and the Arena is reduced by 20% (30% before August 12, 2026), and the official guidebook gives the same 20% reduction for the Battlefield.
See Character Stats for the stats themselves.
Some Challenge titles are tied to PvP. The global client's English data lists the set below for each faction; the Elyos and Asmodian versions carry the same effects. Owned effects apply as soon as the title is earned, and equipped effects apply only while it is equipped. The client's text for the hunter titles reads "Gathered those with the red mark", which appears to refer to defeating enemy players (enemies in PvP mode are shown in red); the client does not give the counts needed. See Achievements and Titles.
Elyos title | Asmodian title | Grade | Owned effect | Equipped effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Just Getting Started | Just Getting Started | Common | PvP Evasion +5 | PvP Defense +105 |
Evading the Grim Reaper | Evading the Grim Reaper | Rare | PvP Defense +10 | PvE Evasion +29 |
Novice Asmodian Hunter | Novice Elyos Hunter | Common | PvP Evasion +5 | Block Penetration +32 |
Intermediate Asmodian Hunter | Intermediate Elyos Hunter | Common | PvP Accuracy +5 | PvP Attack +10 |

The first two are the death titles: their descriptions refer to dying and to holding firm against the other faction's attacks.
Duels are friendly fights between players of the same faction. Winning or losing has no benefit or penalty. A duel can be requested in PvE or PvP mode: click the player you want to fight and choose the duel request icon, and the duel starts when the other player accepts the invitation. Some maps do not support duels, among them dungeons and the Abyss.

A duel ends when | Result |
|---|---|
A participant's HP drops to 1 | That participant loses |
The duel time runs out | The participant with the lower remaining HP percentage loses |
A participant leaves the duel area | Whoever leaves first loses |
A participant dies to something outside the duel | The participant who died loses |
Players who do not want duel requests can refuse them one at a time or turn on automatic refusal under Settings, Notifications, Request reception, Auto-decline duel requests.
