Character Creation and Customization
October 27, 2026 at 07:20 AM
Added preview eye and hair color controls
Character creation in AION 2 sets three things that are hard or impossible to change later, and one thing you can keep fiddling with forever. Get the first three right and the rest is play.

Choice | How permanent | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
Faction | Permanent per character | Elyos or Asmodian decides your starting territory, your story, and which side of the faction war you spawn into. Because the global service runs faction-separated servers , it also decides which server list you can roll on. |
Server | Changeable only through a transfer service | Global server transfers opened on October 14, 2026: one free transfer per account for the whole period, within the same faction and region, and characters on Advance Access servers can only transfer between Advance Access servers. All instanced content, dungeons included, is cross-server. |
Class | No class change in the current build | Pick from the class roster . Levelling a second character is the supported way to try another role. |
Appearance is the exception. It is the one creation-time decision the game expects you to revisit, through paid restyling items and the wardrobe layer.
The storefront copy counts more than two hundred adjustable options, and NCsoft has pitched character creation as one of the game's headline systems rather than a preamble to it. The editor covers body proportions, face structure, skin tone and gloss, hair with two-tone dye pickers, voice presets, and lighting controls so you can judge a face under the conditions you will actually see it in.
The Korean and Taiwanese preview editor allowed adjustments to pupil size and color combinations within each eye. Hair and eye colors used gradients, with separate color selection for different parts.

The Korean and Taiwanese service has added to the editor steadily: new presets, faces, hairstyles and eyebrows in several patches, coloured lighting with a movable light (June 10, 2026), tattoos (July 15, 2026), mole placement and separate skin gloss for head and body (August 26, 2026), and three presets, nine hairstyles, two face shapes and an eyebrow per gender plus a build setting for body shape (September 23, 2026).
That toolset is one of the few launch features described for the global build directly rather than inherited from Korean and Taiwanese patch notes, and the Korean and Taiwanese build has kept extending it, adding wardrobe patterns and independent width and height scaling for pattern placement.
The official guidebook for the Korean service lays the editor out as follows. Customization unlocks at character level 2, as does using an Appearance Change Voucher (both lowered from level 10 on November 19, 2025).
Section | What it covers |
|---|---|
Preset | 40 base preset looks to start from |
Face | Face shape, contours, eyes, nose and mouth |
Hair | Hairstyle and dye |
Style | Makeup, moles and freckles, tattoos, war paint and scars, and facial hair |
Body | Body presets plus body and head, arms, torso and lower body |
Basic look | Sex, main skin colour, skin gloss, one of four voices, and an outfit preview |
Tools | Undo and redo, reset one setting, randomise one setting, hide the interface, fix the gaze, preview tied-up hair, reset all, randomise all, and confirm |
Since May 27, 2026 the outfit preview defaults to your current look, with your hidden parts applied, when you re-customise an existing character; at character creation it defaults to underwear.
The Korean service's character select screen shows up to eight slots on each server, counting used and empty ones, and slot expansions bought on one server stay on that server. NCsoft's global notices do not state how many free slots an account starts with as of October 7, 2026. On the Korean and Taiwanese build, the Chapter 1 update of July 1, 2026, which also added the Brawler, added one free character slot.
The Korean and Taiwanese build also added a character switch option to the main menu, letting you jump straight to another character without returning to the lobby, with combat power and item level shown per character.
Logging in on the Korean service runs country, account, faction and server, then the tutorial for a new character, and the character is created and customized during that tutorial. With characters already on a server, the select screen appears instead:
Element | What it does |
|---|---|
Character list | Each character's look, name and basic details; since March 18, 2026 also its legion |
Last session | Where and when the character last logged out |
Slots | Used and empty character slots, up to eight |
Order | Rearrange the characters |
Rename | Change the character's name using one Name Change Voucher; a confirmation pop-up appears since December 10, 2025 |
Delete | Delete a character; the deletion can be cancelled for seven days after the request |
Names of deleted characters can be reused after seven days, and Name Change Vouchers can be kept in storage (both since December 3, 2025). On the global service, NCsoft's September 30, 2026 shop notice sells the Name Change Voucher for 500 Quna, and for 22,000 Mileage up to twice per character; the Appearance Change Voucher costs 26,000 Mileage, also up to twice per character. Characters moved by a Server Transfer on the Korean service are given a temporary name and choose a new one on their first login.
Since September 9, 2026 a streamer mode on the Korean service can hide account information and replace your own character name with @Player everywhere it appears.
Layer | What it does |
|---|---|
Restyling | Paid appearance changes, sold as vouchers. The Korean and Taiwanese build has run repeated Look Change Week events that halve the cost. |
Closet and wardrobe | Stores cosmetic sets and lets you apply them over your actual gear. Skins are appearance-only and grant no stats. |
Wings are a stat-bearing equipment slot with a cosmetic skin layer on top. Wing skins sold in the shop grant no stats. See Aerial Combat and Flight . | |
Cosmetic companions that can also be ridden, some with utility functions such as Auto-Loot. | |
Styling | Dye, material, pattern and pattern colour can be changed per part from the closet's palette button. The normal price is 200 Quna per part and removing styling is free. Seven new patterns were added on August 5, 2026, and one outfit's dye slots went from three to four on May 13. |
Customization Voucher | Pays for an appearance change. Time-limited vouchers are common event and broadcast rewards on the Korean service, and one was among the global Advance Access viewing rewards. |
Style Shop | Players can share their looks and download other players' looks |
Server sharing | The owned appearance list has been shared by every character on a server since January 21, 2026, and Special-grade appearances since July 1, 2026 |
In the illustrated Closet interface, open Menu, choose Closet and switch to Armor. Use the eye icon beside the Helmet slot to hide the helmet, and select it again to show it. Check the available visibility controls in your client.
One caution for players coming in at launch: during the Launch Scale Test the Closet was disabled entirely and every character wore default outfits. That was a test restriction, not a design.
For the global launch in North America, Latin America and Europe, NCsoft is running a character creation contest called Daeva Makeover from September 30 to October 19, 2026. Entrants submit a headshot and a full-body screenshot taken in the Closet menu; the Ugly, Cute, Attractive and Unique categories each pay 6,000 Quna, every entrant receives two Dye Tokens, and winners are announced on November 2.
The Korean service opened character creation early with a pre-launch customization event from November 16, 2025: one character per account, PC only, with class, name and appearance locked once created. A delay at its opening was compensated with an appearance change voucher for every player.
Classes for the roster. Factions: Elyos and Asmodian for the faction choice. Server Matching and Server Transfer for servers. Pets and Mounts for companions. Style Shop for shared looks. Getting Started for what to do once you are in the world.
