Geraint is a boss encounter in Tides of Annihilation. He was named on 15 July 2026 as one of the bosses in the hands-on demo the studio is bringing to gamescom 2026, alongside Mordred. For most of the time since, that was all anyone knew about him. The Chengdu hands-on on 15 and 16 August 2026 changed that: the fight was played and recorded in public, and it turned out to be one of the more unusual things in the build.
He is optional. Geraint sits behind a side quest rather than on the main path, which is why several accounts of the demo do not mention him at all, and why several others describe him as the hardest thing in it.
What the August 2026 Build Showed
Everything in this table was observed during the Chengdu sessions. The studio has not published a moveset, an arena description, or a place in the campaign for him, so treat these as details of that build rather than as confirmed content of the finished game.

The Fight
The Japanese exhibit does what the Egyptian one does before it: it stops being a gallery. The space folds out into its own realm for the encounter, in keeping with how the museum's wings each drive their own art, enemies and music.
Geraint opens as a samurai and fights like one, with long reach and heavy commitment on both sides of the exchange. His second phase drops that entirely and turns him into an Oni, a demon of Japanese folklore, which changes both his silhouette and the pace of the fight. The demo's colour language carries through: red telegraphs have to be countered rather than avoided, and yellow ones have to be jumped over, and the fight punishes players who try to solve everything with the dodge button. Because it is optional, it is also tuned harder than the main path around it, and more than one player who cleared the rest of the demo never finished this one.
Guan Yu's Side Quest
Geraint is the target of a request from Guan Yu, Gwendolyn's master, who asks her to purge an evil spirit. That is how the fight is found: it is not signposted on the main route through the museum.
It also has a payoff. At the end of the encounter, Guan Yu arrives on Red Hare and a Chinese yellow dragon overpowers the Japanese dragon form before he finishes the boss himself. The studio has drawn the two dragon designs apart deliberately, so that scene is doing thematic work as well as spectacle. As with everything else here, it was observed in the Chengdu build rather than confirmed for the shipped game, and not every player reached it.
Geraint in the Legend
The name comes from Arthurian tradition, where Geraint son of Erbin is a knight of Arthur's court. His story survives mainly in the Welsh tale usually printed as Geraint and Enid and in the closely related French romance about Erec, and it is a marriage story rather than a war story: the knight wins a wife, withdraws from knightly life, doubts her loyalty, and drags her through a series of trials before the pair are reconciled. He is also named as a ruler in south-west Britain in some Welsh material.
None of that has been confirmed as background for the character in this game, and the samurai and Oni presentation makes the distance obvious. Eclipse Glow Games has been explicit that it is reinterpreting the mythos rather than adapting it, and the game has already reworked figures well away from their sources: Mordred is a female demi-god here, Niniane is a shape-shifting companion, and Tyronoe is built out of a single line in a medieval text. Treat the legend above as context for the name only, not as a description of the character players will fight.
Relationship to the Knights
In the legend Geraint sits at the Round Table, which makes his appearance as a boss rather than an ally worth noting. The Spectral Knights that Gwendolyn summons through the Dual Frontline Battle System are drawn from that same tradition, and the demo pool of Bedivere, Gaheris, Gawain, Kay and Palamedes leans on the same deeper cuts of Arthurian material, as does Sir Lamorak in the trailers. Whether Geraint is an enemy throughout the campaign, a knight who can later be summoned, or both, has not been stated.
Where to See Him
The demo runs at Hall 6, booth B-050 in the Koelnmesse during gamescom 2026, which is scheduled for 26 to 30 August. See Platforms and Release for the full event schedule, including the Chengdu hands-on that came first and the first story trailer the studio has said will premiere at Opening Night Live on 25 August. Both the show floor and that trailer are still ahead.
