This biome page was authored from pre-launch materials. The Early Access build's canonical biome list has not yet been independently verified against the in-game UI, so the name and details on this page may differ from the shipped version. This entry will be reconciled with the official biome naming once it is confirmed in a future build update.

VepZone is a biome on Proteus in Subnautica 2. The name was discovered by community members who spotted file names visible in the background of a dev vlog video. It is the most enigmatic of the discovered biome names: unlike the Kelp Forest, Coral Gardens, or Sparse Plains (whose names suggest their environment), "VepZone" does not correspond to any obvious real-world reference or biological term.

Discovery

The biome name was identified through the same method used to discover other Proteus biome names: file names visible on a developer's screen during a dev vlog. The unusual naming convention (camelCase with a capitalized "Z") suggests it may be an internal designation, a placeholder, or a name derived from Proteus-specific terminology that does not map to Earth biology or geology.

These names come from development files and may not represent final naming. The developers stated biome names could change before or during Early Access. VepZone is a particularly likely candidate for renaming given its internal-sounding format.

Speculation

The community has speculated about what "Vep" could refer to. Possibilities include an abbreviation for a developer-internal term, a reference to a Proteus-native organism or material, or simply a working name that will be replaced with a more descriptive title. No developer has commented on the name's meaning or the biome's contents.

• What the name "Vep" refers to

• Depth range and difficulty level

• Unique creatures and resources

• Whether it is included in the Early Access launch or planned for a post-launch update

• Whether the name will change before release
