Degasi crew
The Degasi was a spacecraft that crashed on Planet 4546B approximately ten years before the events of Subnautica. The Aurora's secondary mission was to search for its wreckage. Three survivors lived on the planet for an extended period, and their abandoned bases and personal logs serve as a secondary storyline in the original game.
Paul Torgal
The head of the Torgal Corporation and father of Bart. Paul was wealthy and used to authority, which created friction with the group's survival priorities. He insisted on building a permanent base on a floating island rather than taking risks to find resources deeper underwater. Eventually overruled, the group moved to a deeper location, the Jellyshroom Cave. Paul was killed when hostile creatures overran their deepest base in the Deep Grand Reef.

Bart Torgal
Paul's son and a young scientist. Bart documented the planet's ecology in his logs, recording observations about local fauna, water chemistry, and potential food sources. He was more curious and adaptable than his father. Bart is presumed dead, killed alongside Paul when their Deep Grand Reef base was attacked.
Marguerit Maida
A mercenary hired by Paul Torgal as security. Marguerit was the most practically skilled of the three survivors and frequently clashed with Paul over survival strategy. She favored moving deeper to find better resources, while Paul preferred the relative safety of shallow waters.
Marguerit is the sole Degasi survivor. She was believed dead after the Deep Grand Reef attack but actually survived on her own in the planet's deeper regions. She reappears in Below Zero, living in a greenhouse base in Sector Zero. In Below Zero, she assists Robin by destroying Alterra's remaining Kharaa lab samples, completing Sam Ayou's sabotage.
Bases
The Degasi crew built three bases at progressively deeper locations: a surface base on a floating island, an intermediate base in the Jellyshroom Cave (~200m depth), and a deep base in the Deep Grand Reef (~500m). Each base contains data logs that piece together the crew's story. The progression from shallow safety to dangerous depth mirrors the player's own journey through the game.
