New article: workbench upgrade tiers, profession gates, and specific unlock examples
Workbenches are the core crafting stations in Starsand Island. They come in three tiers (I → II → III), and upgrading them unlocks access to more advanced tools, vehicles, processing stations, and building items. Upgrades are gated behind Crafting profession certifications from Zerine.
Worktable: The primary crafting station. Handles tools, furniture, building materials, and most items. Available from the start of the game.
Furnace: Smelts ores into ingots and processes raw materials. Unlocked early through the Crafting questline.
Cutter: Cuts wood into planks, stone into bricks, and other material processing. Unlocked alongside the Furnace.
Available from the start. Covers basic tools (Stone Hoe, Wooden Watering Can), starter furniture, basic building materials, and the Bamboo Raft. Most early-game crafting happens at Tier I stations.
Unlocked by reaching Junior Crafter certification. Important: You must build Worktable II first — it is required to craft Furnace II and Cutter II. Tier II opens up significantly:
Tools: Impact Set (Axe/Pickaxe) — costs 10 Copper, 10 Fluorite, 5 Softwood
Vehicles: Jet Ski, more motorbike variants
Processing: Gear Smith station for metal components
Storage: Storage Box II (36 slots, up from 18)
Special: Realm Box (shared inventory system, unlocked at Intermediate Crafter)
Example upgrade cost: Furnace I → II requires 5 Bronze + 5 Stone Brick plus the blueprint. Upgrading directly costs fewer materials than building a new station from scratch.
Each Tier III upgrade requires a Mini Reactor, crafted at the Energy Converter — a mid-game crafting station with its own chain of material requirements. Tier III includes:
Advanced tools: Chainsaw (fast tree cutting), Electric Drill (fast mining), Impact Hammer (mines gold and primorite)
Vehicles: Speedboat, Lightning Car, flight vehicles
Buildings: Alpaca barns, advanced animal housing, complex furniture
Processing: Source Corestal crafting (222 coins each, from primorite)
Advance your Crafting profession to the required tier by completing certification quests from Zerine
Purchase the upgraded workbench blueprint from Zerine's General Store
Build Worktable upgrades first — Furnace and Cutter upgrades depend on having the matching Worktable tier
Gather the materials listed in the blueprint
Craft the upgrade (replaces and inherits all recipes from the old tier)
Prioritize Crafting profession advancement — nearly every other profession depends on crafted tools and stations.
Always upgrade Worktable first at each tier, since Furnace and Cutter upgrades require it.
The jump from Tier I to Tier II is the biggest early-game power spike.
Zerine's General Store is open 24 hours, so you can buy blueprints at any time of day.
Start gathering Mini Reactor materials early if you want Tier III — the crafting chain through the Energy Converter takes time to set up.
All higher-tier stations retain recipes from lower tiers. Worktable III can craft everything from Tier I and II.
