Overview
Moorish Idol is an elegant ocean fish recognized by its long, trailing dorsal fin and bold black-and-yellow striping. Found in the Ocean zones of Starsand Island during Summer and Autumn, it is a common coastal catch that sells for 75 Coins. While not the most valuable ocean species, Moorish Idol is a reliable daytime catch that pairs well with other Summer/Autumn ocean fish during coastal fishing sessions.

How to Catch
Fish from any coastal shoreline during Summer or Autumn. Moorish Idol bites between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, making it strictly a daytime fish. Once evening arrives, it stops spawning. It appears in Sunny and Rainy weather. You need Bug Bait or Meat Bait; Veggie Bait does not attract Moorish Idol. Craft bait at the Chopper station and consult the Bait Guide for crafting ingredients.

Tips
Moorish Idol is a daytime-only fish (6 AM to 6 PM). Plan your coastal fishing sessions accordingly and switch to evening-available species like Tiger Puffer (2 PM to midnight) after 6 PM.
During Summer, you can combine Moorish Idol fishing with Tiger Puffer and Lionfish (rainy days) for a diverse ocean haul.
At 75 Coins, Moorish Idol is best used for Fish Fillet production or bait rather than direct selling. Cook it into meals for better profit margins.
Its Bug Bait / Meat Bait requirement means it does not compete with species that need Veggie Bait. Bring multiple bait types to the coast to catch the widest variety of fish.
The Moorish Idol is named after the real-world Zanclus cornutus, a reef fish famous for its long dorsal filament. Fans of animated movies will recognize it as Gill's species.
