Major expansion with confirmed May 2026 mod support details including creator tools and Workshop integration
Mod support for Starsand Island is confirmed for May 2026 as part of the official Post-Launch Roadmap. The update will introduce creator tools, Steam Workshop integration, and the ability to share custom content with the community. This builds on the existing Blueprint Library feature that already allows players to save and share building designs.
The initial mod support release will include a set of creator tools that allow players to design custom content. Based on developer announcements, the tools will focus on cosmetic and decorative content creation.
Custom furniture and decorations: Design your own furniture pieces, wall decorations, and outdoor objects that can be placed in Build Mode.
Custom clothing: Create new clothing and outfit designs that your character can wear.
Custom items: Design new craftable or decorative items that integrate into the game's existing systems.
Mods will be shared through the Steam Workshop, providing a centralized platform for discovering, downloading, and managing community-created content. Workshop integration means:
One-click installation of mods directly from the Workshop page.
Automatic updates when mod creators push new versions.
Community ratings and feedback to help find popular or high-quality mods.
Mod conflict detection to prevent incompatible mods from causing issues.
The existing Blueprint Library system, which lets players save and load building templates, will be expanded as part of mod support. Mod creators will be able to distribute custom building blueprints that include modded furniture, decorations, and structural pieces. This means community members can download entire pre-designed homes complete with custom modded content.
The May 2026 mod support launch will focus specifically on cosmetic and decorative content. The developers have indicated that more advanced modding capabilities may follow in later updates based on community demand.
While not confirmed for the initial release, the community has expressed interest in deeper modding features. These could potentially include:
Custom NPCs: New characters with unique dialogue, schedules, and gift preferences.
Custom quests: New quest lines and story content created by the community.
Gameplay mechanic mods: Modifications to existing game systems like farming timers, stamina costs, or crafting recipes.
Custom crops and animals: New plantable crops, raisable animals, or catchable fish species.
Map expansions: New explorable areas or island extensions.
Whether any of these deeper modding features arrive depends on the technical complexity and community interest following the initial cosmetic modding release.
While waiting for the official mod tools, players can prepare for mod creation by:
Familiarizing themselves with the Blueprint Library system and experimenting with complex building designs.
Studying existing furniture and decoration styles to understand the game's aesthetic conventions.
