Mellowhen
Mellowhen is an adoptable Capybara in Starsand Island. This gentle, laid-back creature lives in the Hopeland area near the player's starting farm. Mellowhen is one of the very first wild animals players can befriend because both its location and its favorite food are accessible from day one.

How to Adopt
Mellowhen is one of the easiest pets in the game to adopt because Pasture Grass is the cheapest and fastest-growing crop in Starsand Island. Daily feeding for roughly 10 to 15 in-game days will reach Affection Level 3.
Step 1. Find Mellowhen in the Hopeland area near your starting farm. The capybara typically rests near grassy patches and wanders within Hopeland.
Step 2. Greet and pet Mellowhen for +5 affection per day.
Step 3. Feed Pasture Grass (favorite, +15 affection per day). Liked foods like Basic Herbivore Pet Food give +10. Each pet accepts only one feeding per day.
Step 4. Repeat daily for 10 to 15 in-game days. The Adopt option appears once Affection Level 3 is reached.
Step 5. Place a Pet House on your property before selecting Adopt. The blueprint is 100 Coins from Stella at Woof and Wow Pets, or free with your first shop pet purchase.

Pasture Grass: The Easiest Pet Food
Pasture Grass is a Beginner Farmer crop and the cheapest seed in the game. It grows in 12 in-game hours, costs only 25 Coins per seed at the Happiness Seed Shop, and grows year-round in all four seasons.
Source. Buy seeds from Graminova at Happiness Seed Shop for 25 Coins each. Stock is unlimited at Starter Farmer rank.
Growth. 12 hours from seed to harvest. Plant in the morning, harvest the same evening or next day.
Year-round. Pasture Grass is one of the few crops that grows in all four seasons, so you never need to switch foods based on the calendar.
Plot allocation. Three or four tiles of Pasture Grass produce more than enough for both Mellowhen and Zippy, who shares the same favorite food.
Pair with Zippy
Zippy the Squirrel also lives in Hopeland and shares Pasture Grass as a favorite food. Adopting both pets in parallel is one of the most efficient early-game strategies for the Fluffy Addiction achievement (3 adoptions).
Same area. Both pets wander Hopeland. A single feeding loop covers both with minimal walking.
Same food. One Pasture Grass plot supplies both daily feedings.
Same timeline. If you start daily feeding both on the same day, you reach Affection Level 3 with both at roughly the same time, completing two adoptions in roughly two in-game weeks.
Post-Adoption Care
Pet Food Bowl. Place a Pet Food Bowl near Mellowhen's Pet House and keep it stocked. Mellowhen eats from the bowl on its own schedule.
Levels 4 and 5. Continue daily feeding to push affection past Level 3. Levels 4 and 5 unlock additional emotes and interaction options.
Outfits. Stella does not currently sell capybara-specific outfits, so Mellowhen wears the default capybara appearance.

Tips
First pet candidate. Mellowhen plus Zippy are the gold-standard first pet adoptions because they are free, close, and use the cheapest food. Bobo is a close third for players who pass through town often.
Pasture Grass overproduction. Plant 4 to 6 tiles of Pasture Grass even before adoption. The leftover grass also feeds your livestock animals and produces fiber for crafting.
Track on the map. Press M, select the Residents tab, scroll down to find Mellowhen's current position. Capybaras have a small territory and rarely stray far.
Skip the shop pets if you want max savings. If your goal is the cheapest path to the Fluffy Recluse achievement, taming the 8 wild pets (Mellowhen, Zippy, Octa, Bobo, Crescent, Meow Alum, Sheriff, wild Scrappy) plus the 404 quest gives you 9 free adoptions.
