Skim Speeders

Skim speeders are one of the four Repulsorcraft classes you pilot in Star Wars: Galactic Racer, alongside Landspeeders, Speeder Bikes, and Podracers. What sets this class apart is that it did not exist in Star Wars before this game. Fuse Games invented the skim speeder specifically for Galactic Racer, which makes it the first repulsorcraft on the grid that is genuinely new to the wider Star Wars canon. The other three classes are all pre-existing vehicle types from the films and earlier material. The studio has since put that on the record directly: the skim speeder was created by Fuse Games in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and is making its debut in this game, which makes it the newest vehicle added to the Star Wars galaxy rather than a borrowed one.
Studio CEO and co-founder Matt Webster has described skim speeders as vehicles that reward flowing lines and maintaining momentum, banking through corners and knife-edging through narrow gaps. Official material likewise highlights the class's "knife-edge" capability. The class offers fast mobility, and that knife-edge cornering is its whole identity.
A dedicated breakdown episode published in September 2026 sets out where the class sits between the other two speeders. Skim speeders may not be as agile as speeder bikes or as resilient as landspeeders, but they represent the balance between the two, an elegant frame for pilots to master. Given room to build, they can gather momentum to become the fastest speeder on the track, and they take sharp corners with the Knife Edge manoeuvre rather than by scrubbing speed off in a conventional turn. That balance point is the reason the class is usually pitched at pilots who want a ceiling to climb toward rather than an easy first frame.

The skim speeder is one of the harder frames to control. It is made for hard banking turns rather than gentle, planted cornering, so getting the most out of it means committing to aggressive lines and trusting the bank. Pilots who master it can carve through corners in ways the heavier, more grounded classes cannot, but the trade-off is a steeper learning curve. One hands-on preview reported that the craft tilts dramatically into corners when you turn, a sensation the writer found unlike other racing games, though that specific tilt detail comes from a single early preview and is worth treating as a preview impression rather than a confirmed spec.
Because the skim speeder rewards confident, late braking and punishes hesitation, it suits players who want a high skill ceiling and are willing to wreck a few times while they learn the rhythm of its turns.
The frame was designed against a real-world analogue in the same way the inherited classes were. Because the skim speeder was invented rather than borrowed, Game Director Bill Lane has said the team could not simply throw caution to the wind with it: it still needed to be grounded in something, and the thing it was grounded in was a plane. The reference work was air-race footage and planes flying through slalom gates. Design Director Mark Bridges describes what came out of that as the skim speeder's own DNA, knife edge capabilities that let it snap around corners and take off at speed, and calls it the one area of the vehicle set the studio could genuinely invent within.
Each repulsorcraft class carries a distinct chassis trait, and the skim speeder's is Knife Edge. The trait shares its name with the knife-edge turn the class was designed around, so it leans into the same hard-banking strength that defines the frame. Three of the four classes have a publicly named trait, and they map as follows. No signature trait has been published for podracers.
Rolling onto a knife edge is not free. Official material notes that the manoeuvre causes a drop in speed and frames that as a trade worth making for the agility it buys through a tight corner. That sits alongside the class's momentum ceiling rather than against it: the drop is what a single turn costs in the moment, while the fastest-speeder ceiling is what the frame reaches once it is flowing and no longer having to fight the track.

As with every class, you can tune a skim speeder between races. The five base stats, Afterburner, Battery, Cornering, Ramjet, and Resilience, are upgraded as you place well, and the higher you finish the more upgrades you can apply. Resilience is worth weighing on such a demanding frame, since a skim speeder punishes mistakes harder than the grounded classes. The shared build system is covered on Gameplay and Controls.
The Digital Deluxe Edition includes a skim speeder of its own: the Kor Sarun: Rak S. Kor Sarun is a vehicle line, not a character, and it spans three exclusive craft, one for each non-podracer class. The Rak S is the skim speeder of that trio, joined by the Ciza T speeder bike and the Darc X landspeeder. These are cosmetic and class-specific vehicles bundled with the upgraded edition rather than performance unlocks tied to progression. In the make-and-model form official material uses, Kor Sarun is the make and Rak S the model.
